OMP leak. How many others have it?

Just wondering how many other of you FD owners have the famous OMP leak and are living with it?

I took my FD in for a checkup and mentioned the slight oil leak to my mechanic. He told me after some investigation that my leak was coming from the Oil Metering Pump. If you have an oil leak this is apparently the best type to have. It just drips a bit and generally does not result in any *measurable* loss of oil. He said that the pump cannot be repaired and has to be replaced. I think he said it costs around $2000 or something for a new pump and that he recommended just letting it go. He said I could drive the car hard or easy and would not matter as far as the leak is concerned. Anyone else have any recommendations? I've heard of some just having it removed or bypassed and running premix but somehow I think this might affect the resale value.

Mine was leaking. I replaced mine almost 4 years ago....it was $2300 IIRC. The aftermarket warranty company didn't like that one.

I don't know about it not getting worse. If you are still running the stock ecu (or Pettit/M2), the ecu will put the car in limp home mode if it detects OMP failure. However, if you are running a standalone, there will be no warning if it fails = kaboom.

you should be able to buy a used one for cheap or just block it off and run premix. I am running without it, but not concerned about resale value.

Mine was leaking too. However when I change the 2 stroke engin oil I was using with Motul 2 stroke smokeless engine oil the leak stopped immediately and also the smoke.

buy an used one and replace the o ring, save you some money, make sure is from a low mile car,an latter "do your research first" pre-mix or buy the rotary aviation adapter plate and pre-mix that way

I don't believe there's anything on the OMP itself that can leak. The crush washers for the OMP lines, the OMP lines themselves, and the O-ring seal to the front cover can all be leak culprits.

Anyhow, they're a dime a dozen used. Shouldn't be hard to find a good used one.

I was convinced my OMP was leaking at one time. Turned out to actually be a leak in the front cover just above the OMP. Check VERY closely as it's tough to see clearly in there.

I hate dirty motors

Ok there are a few of you out there. Well I don't like it because it dirties things up in there and I like to eat breakfast off the top of my engine in the morning and this interferes

Seriously, In response to some of the comments I must say that I am running mostly stock with a few reliability mods. I still have the stock ECU so it is good to know there is a fail safe in place if the thing stops working. I didn't know that so thank you Rynberg!

I have to think about resale value because i currently have the car for sale for $18,500. Maybe too high but it is in near mint condition. I've seriously considered just keeping it but I have a deposit down on a new car coming out in the fall and if I keep the 7 it's kind of like getting married again and deciding not to divorce your old wife Expensive!

Just as cheap insurance I have recently started mixing a 4 oz container of TCW3 2 stroke oil into each tank of gas when I fill up as suggested by some of you. Could be my imagination but I'll be damned if the motor seems to run smoother now. In any case I am at least hoping it will help extend the life of my engine. I'm wondering if in addition I should start running mobil 1 synthetic in the crankcase next oil change? I know there has been some debate about this in some of the threads.

I put 4 oz of castrol 2 stroke oil on a full tank of gas with my working OMP, and could be my imagination as well, but the car seems to idle and run smoother as well. I believe the 2 stroke oil will help burning cleaner with less carbon deposit.

Well it is suggested in the FAQ threads to do this even if you aren't on full blown pre-mix. Hell, it is even suggested doing it on any high revving 4 stroke piston engines as well. I think I will start adding it to my boat engine which is a 4 stroke high perf 3 banger. The main thing seems to be to use a high quality TCW-3 type that won't smoke or produce a lot of ash. I bought some Protek-R from Pettit before I found out you can walk into any auto parts store and find tons of TCW-3 oil for racing engines. They usuall have pictures of motorcycles and boats on the bottles. I just started using some stuff called "Lucas High Temp Racing Oil, Semi Synthetic TCW-3, Low Ash. Seems to work well with no smoking. Just 4 oz in each tank full of gas. Comes in a 32 oz bottle.
