I have a set of the older HKS intakes with the mesh cover. I like them a lot, however, they stopped making the relacement filters. I'm looking for a material to use that will work just as well or, if anyone has the old filters I would buy them. If you have some please PM me ASAP. thanks

You might be better off buying two K&N cones and using the existing HKS piping. The HKS filters don't filter worth a crap. K&N makes TONS of universal sizes - you should be able to find a size that will fit pretty easily.

That said, the link Mahjik posted should be the replacement elements for the old green "poison mushroom" filters. But, post pics up and we'll give you a hand.

For the HKS Super/Mega Flow intakes, you want the 150mm filters.

As for the foam filters being crap, they are as good as K&N filters when used properly. Foam filters require filter oil as the foam itself doesn't do the filtering alone. You need something like this:

Using real filter oil, my intake pipes over several track events and street driving were as clean as friends with K&N filters. However, foam filters (over time, talking more than just a few months) can harden and not do their job if not maintained properly.

There are main tests showing foam filters with oil out performing filters such as K&N. Granted these are the newer foam based filters from companies like Amsoil but when used properly they are just fine.

ive got the hks mushroom, i was told by a few people not to oil it and to just replace it whenever it started getting old.

 

You were lead wrong. The oil doesn't preserve it, that's what traps the fine particles. Once you work with the filter oil, you'll see why; it's damn messy/sticky stuff.

 

I could be wrong but I think that Alamo Motorsports might have few of the replacement filters left. I have two extras that I'm gonna hold onto for right now but I'll get rid of them once I get my K&Ns.

 

Those are the filters on the Nopi site. You want the 150mm ones. Just pick a color. Make sure you get some filter oil to go along with them.

These are the same reasons that people see dirt in their intake track using these filters. They need to be oiled (and they are not pre-oiled.

If you install a filter and your hands are clean, there is no oil on the filter.

Def need filter oil.. race motocross for years.. same principle.. had to wash and apply oil every ride but same concept.. go ride down a dusty road remove your filter and see how well it works..
