Okay smart guys.

How do you Recalibrate Speedometer if you change to 4.3, 4.33 or 4.7 gearing??? I've heard that it can't be done to FD's because of some crap reason. How would you know the speed??? Etc...

Hah, hah, very easy. Go get a Dakota Digital Speedometer recalibration box- SIG5 or something like that for about $120.00. Search the net. Connect it to your speedo connector from the ECU side, connect the box to the ECU. Before you do this, get 3 or 4 readings from a car w/o the 4.77 gear at various rpm and speed (put the car on jackstand). Then reprogram the box so that it reads the same at these points.

Its really that freaking easy???
Damn if you find a link later shoot one this way would you???
I just don't want to think about the gas mileage I would get with gearing like that.

What those boxes do is modify the electrical pulse signal coming from the sensor in the tranny. I suspect they tell you not to use it w/ ABS because ABS works partially by comparing the vehicle speed (as sensed by this sensor) and the speeds of the four wheels (as indicated by the ABS sensors on each). If you were to drastically alter that signal, it might confuse the 'puter, and cause brake lockup, although i rather doubt it.

What in the Hell are you guys talking about with ABS and other nonesuch?

First off, ABS works by taking a derivative of the velocity of each of the abs speed sensors then the 4 channel abs computer compare the deceleration of each wheel. Wheel locked up means little or no deceleration and therefore ABS activates for that respective wheel.

Second, I've it in my car and ABS works exactly the same as before. I've had for over 2 years now too.

One other thing, for traction control, you'll need the speedo sensor. And I've heard of Mercedes and BMW using the tranny speedo sensor in conjunction with the abs sensor to trigger a code in the computer that alert them to odometer tampering. So all you lurkers out there, don't get any ideas!

Pomanferrari, what car do you have this box installed in? Your Ferrari, or an RX-7?

I'm FLATTERED that you think I have a Ferrari. Last time I checked, I wasn't G. Monsen.

The box is with my PoMan's Ferrari.

FANTASY HERE:

I would get the Ferrari F50 for the Alpha Male Factor and drive the 7 for fun. As I hammered the F50 past PFS/Ryan's Shop, their appendages would shrink in half!

REALITY HERE:
BUT I don't have a Ferrari and probably will never be able to afford one. Why? Can't stretch the welfare check that much even if I stop buying food for myself, the wife and my daughter.
I have a friend with a F355, which can be had for about $100K. Nice! but it's too much money for me. Why not? One word: MAINTAINENCE.
If you thought the 7 is a PIA, check out www.nsxfiles.com. The 15,000 miles tune up costs like $7000 with the engine out.

With the seven, I can replace 2 engines in a year and it wouldn't even bother me. Try that with a Ferrari.

Garfinkle made a new gear for the sending unit on the trans . The unit can be moved sideways to adjust the gear mesh. Was it a bigger or smaller gear ? I do not remember , it was white plastic or something.

How does the Auto's (3.9) and the newer J-Spec (4.3) account for the speedo???

Different instrument clusters. I swapped mine out when I did my auto - 5 speed conversion so I would have an accurate speedo but quickly found the drawback. The mileage is stored in the odo and my 62K mile FD turned into a 144K mile FD without moving an inch.

Wow that would suck. Nothing like dropping the resale over a cluster change.
I'm looking into that box, and seeing if there is anyother ways of doing this.
I went with 4.77 gears.
