ok to pressure wash hte engien bay?

Well I been lazy about the engine bay so I been kinda letting it get really dirty. Shame on me , but I'm ready to start detailing it now. I was wondering. before I jump in with the towels and stuff. is it ok to pressure wash the engien bay to get all the real loose dust and stuff off?

Yes you can.

I've done it several times.

I wouldn't do it. Too many hoses, solenoids, switches......etc.

ok but put a plastic bag over things you don't want to get wet like the intake (if you have an exposed filter), fuseboxes, etc. Some have suggested d/c the neg bat cable first and reconnecting after everything has dried. Don't forget the degreaser!

I wouldnt use pressure washer out of fear of breaking things due to high pressure. A can of Foamy Engine Brite does the job well enough just be careful when you are spraying it around in there.

I've used a pressure washer many times. Car wash pressure washers aren't too strong. Don't use the type of tip you can clean your driveway with, it is too strong.

Cover open filters, otherwise wash away. I've had 13 of FDs and they all leave my place with a sparkling engine compartment.

Castrol super clean works well. Use with caution though. Don't leave it on the paint.

You can use Super Clean on the paint, just don't let it sit - clarifying for ya, Jeff .

I've wanted to try a steam cleaning rig - anyone tried that?

I use the coin car washes frequently. I try not to hold it too close around the eletronics. I was the body first to let the exhaust cool a little before i start on the engine.

Done it to my GSL-SE many times with out a problem. Never even bothered to cover a damn thing. I even hit every part of the engine including electrical components. Ya I know, probably not the smartest thing, but it worked. I have not done it to my R1 though. I might cover some things in that ride, being how tempermental they are. I have heard of a number of people doing this though. It's up to you.

I didn't use a pressure washer, but I have hosed down my engine bay before:

I've read about other people using a pressure washer without any problems as the other guys have attested to in this thread. Just be smart about it and you should be fine.

Just use your brain, be careful about spraying directly into electrical connections/boxes, and you shouldn't have any problems.
