Oil Temp Sensor Location

Hi all,

I've recently purchased a set of speedhut guages which includes an oil temp sensor gauge.

I am wondering where most of you put the sensor? I've seen some purchase a sandwich adaptor for the oil filter and place the sensor here.

If you've done that, would love to know which adaptor you've purchased.

Cheers

I replaced the OEM oil filter pedestal with one of these: Oil Filter Pedestal

I mounted an oil pressure & oil temp sensor in mine, both sensors are 1/8" NPT. The Banzai pedestal has 3x 1/8" NPT ports and 1x 1/4" NPT port for your sensors, and the kit includes plugs for all of them so you can plug up the unused ports. Fits perfect, looks great and gets the job done.

Theres a lot of discussion if it should be pre or post cooling. The reality is, it doesn't matter. Put it wherever you can find space. Some put it in their drain plug if you wanted to go that route. The sandwich plate route it good but you'll have to switch to a short filter. The replacement oil pedestal would be better so you can retain a taller filter. They also make an fittings with npt ports on them so if you're running aftermarket coolers, you can tap in anywhere on the path you want. You can check it as its leaving the engine or as its going back to the pan.

Theres quite a few options, none of which are wrong.

^This. You just need to understand how the different locations might affect the temperature readings. In other words, "hot" may be a different absolute value depending on where you place your sensor

Mazda has an oil cooler banjo bolt with a hole tapped in it for diagnosis, i forget the number, but its easy enough to drill and tap a normal one. you do need to be careful about how long/deep the sensor is, but its easy to do and its reversible
