Oil temp.gauge (elect) sender question.

Any suggestions on where to place the sender other than dealing with the oil pan which is a lot of fun. any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

I bought a VDO oil temp gauge. The sender replaces the drain plug. No tapping of anything.

On a side note. I bought a 3 gauge DIN plate to go under my single unit stereo. I put in a water temp gauge, and a boost gauge. I didn't know what to put in the third spot, so I opted for an oil temp gauge. I have had it for several months. I can honestly say that it is of no value to me. I don't look at it. It's only benefit was when I changed from Castrol to Mobil 1. I was able to see that Mobil 1 ran cooler.

It looks nice, and it fills up what would have been a blank hole. The water temp gauge tells me how hot the engine is. Maybe I should be using it for something??

You can use a oil pedestal similar to the one offered by FC3S.org. The pedestal will allow you to install your senders.

Just remembered: I think Greddy makes an adapter that fits under the oil filter. It makes changing the filter a little more difficult.

Be careful when selecting a sender block. I spent some time at Racing Beat some time ago and we couldn't come up with anything from their stock that would work. The issue is that the oil flows into the engine at the pedestal, which is different from older 13Bs. They even called Jim Mederer on the phone to see what he thought while I was in there. However, that was a while ago, so they might have something suitable now. I think the one that I came in to buy was listed for 86-95 engines, but it won't really work on the 13B-REW.

Be sure that you keep the sensor in the flow of the oil, or sitting in it in the pan. You can't put it at a "dead end" or the readings will be off.

Also consider where you want to mount the sensor in terms of the whole system. Do you want to measure the oil in the pan? Coming out of the pump before the coolers? After the coolers to measure the temp of the oil going into the engine?

i have had the greddy adapter for about a year now. it works fine and can do both the temp. and pressure at the same time. the only problem is that the oil filter sits so high now that the throttle body/UIM needs to be loosened to remove the oil filter.

Max is right. I haven't seen anyone other than GReddy that makes them for the FD. We are though, and they should be available for sale, along with SS oil lines in the next 2 weeks. We are also going to offer then anodized in either blue or red, and the other optionis polished.

You shouldn't have to loosen the UIM/throttle body to change the filter. Disconnect the TPS harness, push in the fast idle cam, and you should be able to get it out. Assuming you still have the stock elbow......apparently it's much more difficult with the Greddy elbow.
