oil pressure gauge/level indicator

When the low oil level indicator o nthe oil pressure gauge lights up, does it emit a buzzing noise like the add coolant light does to help alert you when the level is too low?

Not that I'm aware of. That oil pressure gauge is usually crap, anyway...at least the sending unit is.

I wonder why it wouldn't buzz like the add coolant light if the level was too low.

The dip stick measures oil LEVEL. The gauge measures oil PRESSURE

I know that, I am saying that when the light on the gauge illuminates, it indicates low oil level. I wanted to know if it buzzed when the light came on, or does it just come on and not buzz? The reason I ask is this:

I was on the interstate this morning doing 40-50 in 5th. I started to smell a burning. 5-10 seconds later I look on my gauge, and oil pressure is about 20! I quick pull off to the side of the road (coasted) and shut it down. I then had about a 3/4 qt on the ground in a puddle(not sure if it was remaing that was driping from the underpan or if it was oil that gushed out when I stopped. I hope it was that because that means I still had oil in the motor after I pulled to the side of the road). Turns out to be a custom line I made to connect my dual oil coolers that slipped off of the oil cooler hardline. I never got a low oil light indicator and I shut it down and towed it to work. I am fairly confident that I didn't run out of oil. I am putting the car up on a lift tonight and checking out the situation. It makes me sick to my stomach really, but I am pretty sure I didn't starve the motor...

Again, I don't think it buzzes. I had a problem with my sender unit, so the gauge would jump from 0-whatever, but I never heard an audible tone. Why doesn't it buzz? Engineering lol
