Oil pressure gauge.

I just got my FD, and the only thing I've found wrong is the oil pressure gauge does some crazy fluctuating. Is that easy to replace?
Does it mean something else is going on? The car runs awesome....

The oil pressure sender is notorious for having problems. It has a spade connector which can get dirty can cause some interesting readings. The sender is located under the oil filter pedestal. Try cleaning the connection first. If that doesn't help, then the sender needs to be replaced.

That doesn't seem like a good design: having an electrical connection below one of the oiliest areas of the entire engine bay. Shouldn't be too hard to fix though. Call Ray at Malloy, I think he was selling the sender's for $75 a while ago. Not too bad.

Location is not really the problem. The problem really is the connector type. The spade connection allows foreign debris in which is the problem. However, if people really care about making it last, they could wrap the connection with some high temp tape.

Has anyone found a replacement sender that will work better than the OEM?

Silicone fusion tape with a little electrical tape over it in case I get sloppy with the oil filter. Maybe a little overkill, but it's worked for me.

I've run both electric and mechanical gauges; my electric was just as accurate as stock and my mechanical is right on, Because the issue with using a sender I just ran with the mechanical so theres no miss readings.

I would love to run a mechanical... If I could get it to work with a stock/stock looking replacement gauge.

when i first bought my FD i was driving one night when the oil pressure gauge started fluctuating before dropping off and reading zero. a check the next morning revealed i had less than nothing in the oil pan. It was one of those experiences that ended with two thoughts in mind, "holy hell im lucky i was 5 min from home when it dropped off", and "goddamn i hate this stupid connecter!"
