Oil pressure gauge

What should the pressure gauge be reading when driving normal. Mine fluctuates from zero all the way to 100. It bounces with the revs. Could it be a bad ground?

More likely a bad sending unit. I replaced mine and haven't experienced any problems since. Good luck!

Clean the sending unit with a wire brush. If that doesn't fix it, get a new sender.

The oil pressure sensor is on the oil filter pedestal, about 6-8" below the filter on the driver's side. You will see an electrical harness attached to a big plug.

yah mine is kinda messed up sometimes too.

i know my pressure is fine, and i always check my oil like once a week and its always at a good level... but the gauge reads 2 kg^cm2 sometimes and 0 kg^cm2 sometimes, and when it does move, its really jerky sometimes when i accelerate...

would a new sending unit fix my problem maybe?

I'm not sure, but I think the manual says minimum 55 psi @ 3000 rpm.

If you want to install an aftermarket oil pressure gauge, where do you install the sensor? Same position as the stock sensor?

I am assuming that an aftermarket sensor and gauge would be better than OEM, is this true?

mine usually runs about 65psi around 3k, and will peg the gauge out if i'm redlining it. mine used to read 0 sometimes when randomly driving. i replaced the sending unit with one i bought from malloy and it works flawlessly now

Yes, an aftermarket oil pressure gauge is better. All the ones I've seen hooked up use an adapter that bolts to the oil filter pedestal, and sits between the pedestal and the oil filter.

yea,
I notice that on my new FD too. So I clean it with carb. cleaner and wipe it very good. Then put it back in. Works fine now.

Better? Maybe. Totally unnecessary? I think so. There's only so much practical room to mount/view gauges and the stock oil pressure works fine. How much detail do you need? I look at it while at cruise occasionally just to verify that it's at about 60 psi at 3k rpm. That's about all you need it for IMO.

And jspecracer7 is correct, a lot of people install it in a block adaptor (Greddy makes one -- I use it) between the oil filter and the pedestal.

You know if you pay enough attention to your oil pressure gauge(in terms of aftermarket), you can see when to change your oil.
