Oil Pan Removal Question.
Oil Pan Removal Question.
I got a quick question. To remove the oil pan from the car, to repair an oil leak, do you need to remove the lower sub-frame, or can you just jack up the motor and remove the pan.
Thanks for your help. I got a nasty oil leak from the pan and im in the process of repairing it and i just need a place to start.

I did it in the garage on jackstands w/o removing the subframe:

While you are under there you really should consider installing one of our oil pan brace kits, it will help prevent you from having to do this job again

I have done this job a few times now and find it easiest to just loosen the two nuts on the rear of the subframe, do not remove the subframe but loosen those nuts. Gives about an an extra 1/2 inch of clearance and really make the job easier.
The link suggests removing the two oil cooler lines. Where are these? I can't see them...
Currently my pan is on the subframe but there seems to be two metal strips that foul the pick up...
There appears to be two hex-head bolts holding the oil pick up to the block. If I removed these, would the pickup just drop into the pan and allow removal?
Cheers

Yeah - I was thinking I wouldn't bother with the brace, but being half way through the job - it's a no brainer. Worth every cent if it means I don't have to do it again.
I was hoping I wouldn't need to remove the subframe, but I guess I've no choice... Perhaps my Aus Delivered model has a different pan design. I know it has twin oil coolers from the the factory...

I'd suggest buying /downloading the manual, illustrates a method of supporting the engine and dropping the subframe without having to work through a postbox size aperture.
Yeah, I realised I'd pulled the lines anyway!
I'll look into the manual. I really can't be bothered trying to do it in that tiny space. Should be easier to get a good product without the sub in the way too
