Garfinkle makes an oil pan brace which helps distribute the stress on the pan around all of the bolts, it also comes with necessary hardware. Rx7store.net sells them.

If you don't have experience with this I would have it professionally done. There are alot of things that can be overlooked and it is tricky to safely set up the car without a lift. Where are you located?

oil pan r&r

take the fron wheeles of and disconnect the bottom mount on the shocks first, then make sure to remove the 4 bolts holding the power steering rack to the crossmember, you want to be able to drop the crossmember down as far as possible to make it easy to remove and re-mount the oil pan. It seems like a lot of work but in actuality it is easy, just a little time consuming. The first time I did it in my garage with jacks and hand tools it took me like 8 hours......being cautious tho. I have done it in under 3 with the same tools and jacks. make sure to clean the pan mounting surface and the bottom of the engine's cleaning surface with paint thinner or lacquer thinner. I also recommend when you put the pan back on using silicone gasket maker (ima tech for mbz and I just used the same crap we use on benz's) but let it dry overnite before you put any oil in it......I haven't lost a drip of oil since and I didn't use the factory gasket either.

You forgot to mention that the drivetrain has to be supported somehow. Either with a jackstand under the trans or preferable with an engine cross brace that goes across the fenders.

Under 3 hours is speedy ,I estimate 5 hours for my customers , from under the car on jackstands as well . Let the sealer set up as in the directions .Check with the RX7 store for one of my oil pan braces for a complete job .

I would like to add that when I did this job, I got around the problem of oil dripping onto the flange by putting the front of the car on ramps, removing the oil filter and plug and letting it drain for several days.

Used the right stuff and no gasket. No leaks so far.
