Oil Pan is leaking.. have a few questions

My oil pan is leaking real bad on my rx7. I was wondering what they use to reseal them after you take it off? Is there a factory gasket that you use? Do you just use liquid gasket stuff. Or do you use both?

Any help would be great.

Thanks

SEARCH!!!
Use liquid gasket, don't use a regular gasket.
Hondabond, the Right Stuff for Imports and a few other sealers seem to work well.
More then likely your going to have to drop the sub frame.
There are a ton of write ups on the forum about this.

belive it or not but I have a method that works wonders. Picked it up at nopistons. Take a chisel and stab and scratch real hard the parth on the oil pan where the gasket goes, do the same on the engine, use some sort sealant with the gasket, silicone based things are good. Textering the surface like that helps the sealant and gasket attach better and stay in place. I havent done it myself but quite a few people did and they all said it did wonders. my 2 cents.

Do a search on "oil pan brace", it's produced by Staff's auto. Supposedly, it provides enough stability that the seal of the pan can hold a lot longer, making the seal and bolts more resistant to vibrations and torque.

"SleepR1" has commented on this quite frequently.

I use hondabond....1 layer on the engine and 1 layer on the oil pan. and have the factory gasket go between the two.

DON'T wipe off the extra sealant coming put of the sides. just torque the screws. ALSO put some hondabond on the engine mount bolts!

First make sure the oil filter base isnt leaking or the turbo oil lines or the turbos themselves. If it is you pan- use the right stuff for imports, it works really well.

well im positive its not the oil retun lines.. It could be the oil filter, but all the drips are coming off the subframe. I also saw drips coming out of the oil pan seem. It could also be leaking from there. I didnt think to check that.. Thanks for the info

Does anyone know of any online instructions to repalcing the gasket?

Ive read where people take off the motormounts and jack up the tranny.

Other one I read about is droping the subframe..

What is the easiest and safest method in your opinions?

Thanks!

My oil pan was leaking last month. I took it to a shop and they charge me for $340.00.

They say I have paper gasket that's why. And paper gasket is not always neseccary good.

who is the crack head idiot that designed this car! Id like to punch them.. Why in the world is it so hard to replace an oil pan!

I had to buy a freaking engine hoist to do it!

Not to mention that the idiot that did it before forgot to torque the engine mount bolts down! The mounts were on there at like 10ft pounds. One of the subframe bolts was less than finger tight. Its crazy.

Whats the best sealer to use? hondabond?

just a tube of the generic silicone based gasket stuff that you can get at autozone or another auto parts store will work fine if done right.....you don't need special import sealant or anything...
