Oil level sender questions...
I replaced my oil level sender/sensor for 2 reasons, one was the wire had been severed at the base of the sensor so there was no possablity of repair and secondly it was leaking. So a few questions:
1.I bought a used sensor and it had an o-ring on it already, are the o-rings supposed to be hard, or flexible?
2.How tight do the bolts need to be or can they be? I was afraid of stripping them and thus I don't think I sealed it completly and it is still leaking slowly...
I hate to pull the oil back out, and the sender and replace the o-ring because I didn't put a new one on, but hindsight says that may be the solution. That may be the easy answer but it is not the easy fix. So any help would be appreciated on these 2 questions...Thanks

the o ring should be relatively soft, i just bought a new one from ray crowe at malloy mazda. be very careful how tight you tighten it, i actually cracked my original one and had to replace it. make it snug but def not real tight.

Went ahead and ordered a new o-ring from the local Mazda dealership...
For those who might read this later, the pn is N326-10-t11 cost was $3.00
Thanks

If you are missing the wire from the sensor and there is nothing to solder on to, then you will need to replace the sensor. A new sensor from Malloy Mazda is $95, I bought a gently used one from a local rotary shop for $50 shipped. The wire has only about 8" to it. There is a wire loom running from the starter to the alternator, and right above the oil level sesnsor there should be a single black wire coming out of that loom with a white plug on it, that's where it plugs into. Hope that helped.
