oil injection lines and failure...

Hey there. Just looked to see if there was any threads on this and I didn't find the answers I was looking for. Just wondering if anyone has had problems with the oil injection system. Mine as far as I know is working fine but me and some friends were talking about how if it failed, it would suck. Is it a weak point? From what I gathered on the threads 3rd gens have an idiot light to warn you of a problem... correct? The other question I had was can a guy replace the brittle plastic lines with some small braided lines(or something fail proof) with the correct fittings to eliminate the worry of a broken line? Thanks for any help

There is not a warning light , if the steper motor goes out you get a code ,check engine light. Garfinkle has made steel braded lines but they were alittle big in the inside diameter . He did not like the looks of the small clamps and removed them after a year or so. I think he is using new stock lines now. the stock lines do get hard from the heat and will break . so beware

The inside diameter too big cause injection problems or was it a volume issue? How much can you see of it anyway... can't be too much i wouldn't think. Is there any other methods to make this piece more secure or am I wasting my time worrying about this? Thanks for the help.

You could always upgrade the oil coolers and the lines with a crookedwillow racing oil cooler kit, it has braided steel lines, but of course costs about $800 - $900 plus you have to install it, so about a grand!

I dont think the CW kit replaces oil injection lines.... Those are those brittle things that go with the OMP right?

I worry about this as well. i have them periodically checked, and more importantly:

I premix. Even if you don't want to spend the $$ for protekR, you can get an excellent 2-stoke oil from amsoil or others pretty cheaply, and your car will be better-lubricated and run more smoothly that the day the OMP was new. I've done it every fill up since i got my new KDR motor.

I went to a hobby shop and got a model airplane fuel filler bottle, and keep it in my car. Its graduated so i can always put in the right amount, and has a nice, sealable annodized alluminum spout. Just pour it in before you fill up.

Fairly cheap insurance and the car will run better.

Thats just it ...I don't want to have to pack around a bottle of 2 stroke mix( Amsoil is good stuff) and have to add every tank. I'm not lazy by no means it's just that the system is there so why not use it. I just want to make it fail safe basically. BTW doesn't the system add more oil when under higher rpm?

The OMP supplies no oil at idle and about 5cc every 3 minute at 2500 rpm (the volume amount was listed in general rotory tech section, but I think that is what was listed) I checked mine and it supplies only a slow drip at 2500rpm. The impression is that it only oils the center of the rotor housing and apex seal due to the nozzle location and small volume of oil supplied. I just rebuilt my engine and will premix in addition to the OMP.
