Oil Filter info
Hey all, here is the info I've gathered about different oil filters that fit our car:
(from left to right: Purolator 14612, 14610, 14459)
Purolator PL14612 : (stock fitment for 1993-1995 RX-7, 2004+ RX-8, Subaru 2004+ WRX 2.5L STi )
Height: 2.93"
O.D.: 2.69"
Anti-Drain Back Valve: Yes
Relief Valve P.S.I.: 14-18
Threads: M20-1.5
Volume (calculated): 16.7 sq. in.
Purolator PL14459 : (stock fitment for 1986-1991 RX-7, Honda S2000, Honda Civic )
Height: 2.95
O.D.: 3.15
Anti-Drain Back Valve: Yes
Relief Valve P.S.I.: 12-15
Threads: M20x1.5
Purolator PL14610 : (stock fitment for Mazda MX-6, 626, Infiniti G35, Nissan 350Z, Acura 3.5 RL...)
Height: 3.52
O.D.: 2.69
Anti-Drain Back Valve: Yes
Relief Valve P.S.I.: 14-18
Threads: M20-1.5
Volume (calculated): 20.0 sq. in.
Based on the above, I'd avoid the PL14459 (91 RX-7) filter, since it has a lower relief valve pressure rating. Both the stock fitment and the 14610 seem to be used in other high-performance cars. The 14612 has a 16% greater volume than the stock filter, so there should be a better safety margin there.
Has anyone used different filters besides the Purolator PureOne? I've also heard good things about Mobil1 and K&N, but haven't tried them myself.
