Question Oil Coolers...

So I have been looking around for oil coolers for a performance set up and I am trying to avoid spending a lot of money. I have dropped a lot of money into my build so far and I am really trying to slow down on the spending. I have already did a five speed swap on my car and invested about 8k in parts just alone from
rx7 store. So I was wondering what are some alternatives to spending a lot of money on oil coolers. If you guys have any ideas please send them my way. Thanks.

Edit: Also I noticed that there is a similar post regarding fc oil coolers in an fd. I want to maintain the dual cooler set up. I can list my mods if you guys need to know that also.

green,

Oil coolers are not going to be cheap - neither is what's going to follow: If you haven't done so already, you could get a Koyo radiator. You'll automatically notice the cabin won't get as hot, and your heater won't get really get hot either, both of which are obvious signs that it's working. It's all aluminum and is twice as thick as the stock radiator. It fits in the stock location just by drilling one hole 1/2" next to each of the two Koyo mounting holes. There's actually a couple of vendors on this forum that are selling them at a discount, or better yet there's forum members selling them in the FS section.

Then get a downpipe to replace the heat-loving precat. Then a high-flow keep your right arm from burning. A vented hood works great too.

Just two things:

1 - Getting rid of heat should have been the first priority.
2 - If you hit "Search," you'll find there are already numerous threads addressing heat.

One more piece of advice:

Don't spend all your money on a car.

Great thread and he provides actual data to back up the coolers:

If you have a little bit of skills you could go the cheap route as they call it:

The only "cheap" option is to go with stock R1 coolers.

If you decide to go the R1 route I have a full kit (coolers/ducting/lines) up for sale soon with only 52k miles on it.

Ok I have a question, I plan on tracking the fd pretty hard this summer. I have the oem dual oil coolers right now and just put in a single turbo. Will the oem oilcoolers be enough?? Or should I upgrade to bigger ones. They are ducted and I should have around 400whp when all is said and done...

P.s sorry for the thread hijack

R1's here.....

Ditched all the stock lines & went with AN fittings & braided line. Couldn't be happier with the results. I picked up a passenger cooler for $80 shipped.

Dual R1's are really the least expensive way to go. Honestly if you get to looking into it, the oil coolers are not the majority of the expense at all. The Lines and fittings are over half the cost of a dual oil cooler kit. You should be ok with stock oil coolers as long as they are ducted correctly, you have a good water cooling system, and you keep the fluids in both fresh during track season. If you are concerned, just add an oil temp gauge and keep an eye on it.
