Try some foam or sheet aluminum first.

What oil temps are being seen now?

dunno on temps, its my new track car....

>>Try some foam or sheet aluminum first

umm, thats was what i was trying to avoid :-) thus the post for 'pre-fabbed' ones :-)

my plan was to make custom ducts out of fiberglass, but they are already made by someone then its worth looking at before trying to make my own.

My point is that it may be easier to make the ducts out of foam or aluminum first. If absolutely necessary - use those as a mold. I know Fabian's car had an oil temp gauge, no track runs yet?

ahh, i see whay u were sayin now

nope, winter started here just as the car arrived, so I have not had it on the track other than the testing we did at LS when i went there to see the car, cant rememebr the temps, I can ask fabian.... i think they were ok, but there was no oil cooler ducting at all, so I though I would make some in the winter down time

230-240F on hot days.

i think this is a worthwhile project damian. just make sure and reserve some of that suct for the brakes.

hey fabian, yeah my plan was to use only 1/2 to 2/3 the opening for the oil cooler duct and the rest for brake duct...

i have no idea what the 'danger' temp range is for oil, ill have to go look around

180F is ideal. 240F-260F is back off.

You should just remove the brakes, better airflow for the oil coolers.

Screw it, just take out the engine and turbos, they're the things making all the heat anyways.

most of the spec rx7 (1st gen) builders around here say they run about 240-250 consistently on quality synthetics. if you could run 200, more power to ya. with straight grade race oil, you'll start to lose some power much lower than that temp.

i think it's important to change oil frequently as you get up in the temps....that's the best guarantee it's good. most local guys here change oil every race weekend. i did mine every other.

regards
fabian

ps....i think you won't need much more than 1/3 to the brakes....i've never faded them even at Laguna (very hard on brakes) without ducting.

i actually could run it the way it was just fine on the tracks here, this is just 'extra winter time cuz I want to play with the car in some way' kinda stuff :-)

.... and i have no doubt that even without ducts the brakes will have no issues on either of the 2 local tracks, they are not as hard on brakes as LS, but i may do a few RoadAmerica events and only then will I 'maybe' start to push the brakes.... and probably still dont need ducting, .... but its another thing I can do that keeps me playing around with the car until the season starts :-)

Damian,

Don't lie to us now, but how many times have you started it up and just sat there while you got high off the premix fumes?
