oil cooler ducts for GTC MAZDASPEED FRONT BUMPER
...does anyone make pre-fabbed ones? trying to save myself some messy ducting work.
|
Try some foam or sheet aluminum first.
What oil temps are being seen now? |
dunno on temps, its my new track car....
>>Try some foam or sheet aluminum first umm, thats was what i was trying to avoid :-) thus the post for 'pre-fabbed' ones :-) my plan was to make custom ducts out of fiberglass, but they are already made by someone then its worth looking at before trying to make my own. |
My point is that it may be easier to make the ducts out of foam or aluminum first. If absolutely necessary - use those as a mold. I know Fabian's car had an oil temp gauge, no track runs yet?

ahh, i see whay u were sayin now >>I know Fabian's car had an oil temp gauge, no track runs yet? nope, winter started here just as the car arrived, so I have not had it on the track other than the testing we did at LS when i went there to see the car, cant rememebr the temps, I can ask fabian.... i think they were ok, but there was no oil cooler ducting at all, so I though I would make some in the winter down time |
230-240F on hot days.
i think this is a worthwhile project damian. just make sure and reserve some of that suct for the brakes. fabian |
hey fabian, yeah my plan was to use only 1/2 to 2/3 the opening for the oil cooler duct and the rest for brake duct...
i have no idea what the 'danger' temp range is for oil, ill have to go look around |
180F is ideal. 240F-260F is back off.
You should just remove the brakes, better airflow for the oil coolers. |
:-)

i actually could run it the way it was just fine on the tracks here, this is just 'extra winter time cuz I want to play with the car in some way' kinda stuff :-)
.... and i have no doubt that even without ducts the brakes will have no issues on either of the 2 local tracks, they are not as hard on brakes as LS, but i may do a few RoadAmerica events and only then will I 'maybe' start to push the brakes.... and probably still dont need ducting, .... but its another thing I can do that keeps me playing around with the car until the season starts :-) |
Damian,
Don't lie to us now, but how many times have you started it up and just sat there while you got high off the premix fumes? :) |
countless :-)
... and now its so much easier with the start button installed (hehehe) |
How'd you end up setting the idle?
|
>>How'd you end up setting the idle?
huh? by the way i played wiht the stock ducts i purchased for almost nothing at mazdacomp and they work pretty well, I will still have to make some changes but overall they 'fit' in there ...ill post pics when i get a chance.... |
! hey! its been 10 years! any updates on those ducts? LOL
I'm in the same boat i'd like to get some ducting for my oil coolers . |
