I think you mean the crush washer. It goes on the drain plug. Throw away the one that's currently on there.

are you talking about the washer? I know that they sometimes give me a washer when I buy an oil filter for my Fd....its for the oil drain plug.

If it is taped on the box....it is for your drain plug. Normally they charge you for it...I guess it was a consoldation prize.

I always buy Purolator filters for mine since there's no mazda dealer near by (that and they're only on about 1000 miles, so who cares). I went in today to buy one and noticed all of a sudden they have the the PureOne filters (the expensive ones) to fit our cars, so I figured what the heck. When I got home I was reading the box and saw where it said "replaces mazda (part number here)." I dont know if there was a point to this post, but yeah, I thought it was cool.

"Pure One" Oil Filter, NOT "Purolator"

Purolator makes like three models of oil filters; low, medium, and high quality. Their "Pure One" model is the best! Get the "Pure One" Part# PL14622, $5.99 each for the FD3S. Don't get the other model Purolators.

I can't find the Pure One locally either so I order them over the Internet from PartsAmerica.com. Get 5 or 6 at a time since you should replace them every 2000 miles. Here's the link:

Try Discount Auto Parts. That's where I got mine. The part number is L14622 for the standard filter, and the Pure One is number PL14622. I was told by a tuner one time (not mentioning names) that it doesn't really matter which filter you get as they're only on for about 2000 miles. I was even told that if I ran the Mazda filter that I could change it every other filter change. I usually run the standard Purolator filter and change it everytime, mostly cause it's only $2.99 so who cares, but decided since I was going crazy changing plugs, fuel filter, ect, that I'd go all out.

The Pure One's look good under the hood. They're metallic blue. I get mine at Advanced Auto in Michigan.

That is true....you should replace the washer for the drain plug everytime you change the oil. I know a few guys that don't and claim you don't have to....but I worked in a dealership for a while so I got used to doing it for the policy of the company.

I have been using the Pure One oil filter (PL14459) on my FD for as long as I can remember. I like the anti-drainback feature on these oil filters, to keep oil in the filter when the car is off. I don't notice a lower oil pressure. I have always been happy with it. Some have the ASP or Greddy elbows on their cars and can't use the 2nd gen size oil filters on their FDs.

This is the one I use also; PL14459; excellent filter, no grainy feel to the oil when switched to this filter.

The Pure One PL14622 does not have the anti-drainback feature. I'll post a scan later.

Mine says they do... U must be talking about the cheaper L14622, not the PL14622 Pure One. I'll look for the other tread for scan...
