O-ring/ Cooling System Help and Questions

Alright I did some searches yet no definite answers so...

My Car seems to run rough (Symtons Include: rough idle and stuttering alot). Yet still has power. I did the Champange Bubble check to see if it was o-ring. There seems to be TINY bubbles popping sometimes but I have a feeling its because of having no AST. Now how big are these bubbles supposed to be and what about if I dont have an AST cause I dont.

My questions are as follows:

Do you NEED an AST for reliability?
What are Other Symtons of O ring failure??
Whats should the cap pressure be? 13lbs or 16lbs?

Any other tips or advice on Cooling and O-rings is appreciated.

Thanks

Mazda put the AST on there for a reason. Leave it.

When my coolant seal went, I had huge bubbles coming up, not champagne ones. It just depends. If there is a solid ammount of bubbles coming up, it could be your seal. Try pressure testing the system, that will tell you for sure where your leak is, including if its the motor.

Also is it getting hard to crank it in the morning? bogs at all? Thats a sure sign that coolant is getting into the motor when it sits at night.

Mazda issued a recall on the coolant system and changed all the caps to .9 bar I believe. So, yours should be that.

Another sign of your coolant system going is coolant will pour out of your overflow tank b/c of the exhaust gases pushing it out and also the pressure is messed up in the system. The coolant goes in there, and doesnt have the pressure to suck it back out.

Good luck with it and keep us posted.

Alright well I need to get an AST so thats one thing. No Bog at all in the morning or hard starts. Only time it seems to bog is whem im cruising and its more of a stuttering than a bog. The bubble are extremely small, smaller than soda bottle opening or something. The symtons annoying me are just the constant stuttering while cruising. Starts are perfect and no problems at all when starts. When you say pressure test what type of pressure test? BTW .9 bar is how many lbs?

Thanks

Just go to your local auto part store and ask them if you can rent or buy one.

No AST needed. Been running my car for over80K miles without one. Once mine came apart at the seams, left it off.

My o-rings failed at 78K miles. Main symptom is unexplained loss of coolant. Coolant level will drop, sometimes minisculely, sometime a lot, without evidence of a leak. I never had any issue with coolant out of the overflow tank. Just mysterious loss of coolant.

Also, some hard-starting in the AM. Starts with a goodly stream of white smoke as the coolant burns off.

Well Ive heard that you need the AST for reliability, yet Ive gotten mix opinions. The symtons on my car are extremely small bubbles (not constant) in cap. Car turns off on its own and bogs some times when holding a constant speed. The vacume at idle jumps like if it had a cam. Im only doing between 10 to 13 inhg of vacume which is horrible I know but suppously the motor is ported. Ive searched high and low and no hoses seem to be leaking or loose so Im left to the conclusion it could be O ring.

I seriously doubt that bad o-rings are the cause of your problems. Please list your mods and try to better describe the exact problem. List when the last time plugs were changed, etc.

Mods: DP, Blitz Intake "Suppously Ported ( cant check ). Boost Gauge, the guy said the computer was remapped too but I dont know. New Radiator, Stock IC, ground straps.

Changed Spark Plugs yesterday. 3 of 4 were shot (lots of gas). Didnt not fix problem only helped smooth transition from low RPM to high.

Symtons Include: Massive Backfiring, Horrible Idle, Stuttering at low RPM, Dies if Idle goes to low. Problem gets worst when A/C is on. The coolant rarely falls low but there is a leak now in a hose so Id have to replace and recheck it.

Thanks for the input Guys

One possible thing to check on is the fuel pressure regulator being bad. Either that, or you likely have a leaking primary fuel injector.

How would I go about checking the injectors?? Would I have to remove them?? Could I clean them myself or would I have to send them away to get cleaned? I'll try some high end injection cleaner and see if that makes it any better.
