Not another one...
Hey guys, I got another question I need some help with. In about 3 weeks, I'm installing the following on non-sequential stock twins WITHOUT a ported W/G:
3" Bonez Downpipe
RX7store Resonated Midpipe
Racing Beat Exhaust
HKS RS Intakes
PFC w/ Commander
UR Pulley Set
Walbro 255lph Fuel Pump
Greddy SMIC Piping Kit
Greddy Compression Tube
Greddy Breather Tank
Fluidyne Radiator
Now I see a TON of closely related questions to this, but none of them seem to answer my question directly. Obviously with this new setup, I'll have a pretty wide open exhaust... which is usually prone to boost creep and/or spike. I plan on running my boost controller on the PFC at 12psi. If I do creep/spike, and its within the range of the PFC's maps, will I be endangering my engine? (Example, turbos spike to 15, level back down to 12, or slowly creep to 15) My thoughts were if people are running at 16psi or so on the PFC with these mods, what would be the great danger if my car spiked/creeped to that level? Wouldn't the PFC maps compensate at that boost level? If this idea is wrong PLEASE correct me! Thanks!

You are wrong. Fix the creep. There is no reason to not get the wastegate ported if you are already putting a downpipe on.
I would never run more than 12 psi on the stock IC.
There is no reason to upgrade the fuel pump if you are still using the stock fuel system. You are limited to 13 psi with the stock fuel system.
The UR pulley install can be a nightmare and can ruin your engine. Everyone else's pulley install is not risky. I would suggest a different company.

And when you say stock fuel system...are you refering to the injectors/fuel rail? I'm pretty uneducated in how much fuel injectors actually provide to how much is needed. I figured the stock fuel pump was designed for 10 psi, so if I was moving to 12 I should upgrade that. I didn't want to have to get into the complication of buying rails and different sized injectors, and I'd like to avoid that... any suggestion on how I could do that? I've already spent a lot of money this year on the parts, I really don't need to buy another engine.

I never ported my wastegate when I had my HKS dp, RX7 store resonated mid pipe and Greddy EVO. I was also running non-seq. But I had a Greddy EBC and Pettit unlimited ECU. I boost was always perfect with not spikes or creeps. But like Ryberg noted don't run more than 12 psi on stock ic. the stock fuel system (ie fuel pump, injector, rail and regulator) is good enough for 12 psi.

ahh...well I guess I got the new fuel pump as a mod "just to mod", but I'll feel a little more secure with a brand new pump in there. I don't understand why your setup didn't fluctuate while everyone else seems to have problems with their PFC's.

Thanks for the info... I did some research on this through several online sites, and I came across this at RX7Store.net:
Unorthodox main drive pulley for the 93+ RX-7. This replaces the stock main pulley and takes about 30 minutes to install. Unorthodox has redesigned this pulley so you dont have to remove the main hub which caused problems in the past.
I'm going to assume that since my part is being ordered directly through UR, they have the new version for it. If I receive it and realize I do have to remove the hub, I will make sure I return it. Again, thanks for the help.

The hardest part is you have to remove and separate the turbos, I had a set up one time on one of my fd’s like yours. Takes about 4hrs, to do the job start to finish. With a mid pipe on you WILL see 15+ psi @ redline, and it will creep up fast. I use to even get 2 psi of creep with a ported WG.
As everyone else already stated 12psi max on the stock IC, the stock fuel system reaches its limits around 13psi of boost. If you plan to run more your going to need to upgrade your IC, and fuel injectors and rails to accommodate more fuel. (kgparts.com)

I'm not planning on going over 12, and if I do, I'll make sure to purchase those items first. 4 hours is a lot more than I was anticipating. Can you port the WGs too much?

i think youre assuming the PFC maps change, if you get your car tuned properly for 12 psi, and you spike to 16 psi your map is still made for 12psi. thats where the problem comes in.
unless you get it tuned for 16psi then use that map and run it at 12psi, in which case your car would probably run real rich and crappily.
kevin.

It's possible to make the w/g hole too big, but if you take little breaks to see how the flapper door fits over the opening you won't make that mistake. Personally I would enlarge it some but not out to the limits of the door. Just a fraction of an inch in port diameter will stop boost creep in all but the most extreme cases.
The actual wg port size change will be handled when you readjust your boost controller.

I'm not actually doing this job myself, but something that concerns me is that the shop I'm taking it to, T and R in Queens, told me that I didn't need to port the W/G unless I was running 16-17psi, which I believe to be incorrect from everything I've studied on here. I'm just worried that it's one of those things that if it's done incorrectly, cannot be reversed(unless you pay big $$$ of course), so I'm trying to make a sheet so I can tell them EXACTLY what I want done, how big ports are, etc.

Anyway, does it really matter if they think you'll get creep today? If you port it now, you never have to worry about it in the future.
