non-sequential

Hi,
I want to switch to a non-seq setup and have been reading some posts and there seem to be a number of ways to go about it.

What are the downsides with just wiring the little flapper door back on the manifold and not removing and vacuum hoses or touching anything else?

If you do the poor mans you get full boost around 4500, if you do it the correct way you get boost around 3500. So yes lag

If u do a poor mans non-seq, then yes MAJOR lag
But im on full non-seq and i like it more then the Seqtial, well i like it becasue it feels like more like a single, but i get my full boost within 5k RPM in 2nd gear (14PSI)

But for daily driving and if u drive like a baby like me then youll need to use a bit more gas then usall to get up to regular speeds lol.

But overall i like it

OK looks like I won't go the "poor mans" path.. even though it probably suits me at the moment

Is there a good guide on how to do the non-poor man's conversion? (with pics) and stuff.. I have searched and found numerous posts about it but each one detailed different vacuum hoses to disconnect etc... Also is there anything else that I should do while I am working on this section of the car?

Thanks

Quite a bit more complicated then the old poor mans job... but it looks like it's the way to go.. think i'll install my PFC first and remove my vacuum pump and once that is all running smooth i'll start on this....

Thanks again.

I did the "Poormans" mod and I have full boost right about 3,500-3,600 rpm. Only exhaust work is a 3" mandrel cat-back. I used to have a DSM with a single so it's no big deal. Top end feels much stronger than it did before too.

I've been running the poor man's for like 4 years now. Only problem I had was when the wiring came off the flapper door and it was like half way open.

I've run both. Rich mans is a bad term. It doesn't cost much at all, its just time to do it correctly.

Well you would be the only person in history to do that with those mods then.....and the top end is exactly the same...it just feels stronger since the low end is so much weaker.

When the temps warm up I'll take the car for a drive and verify. I'll video if I'm not lying. If I am, I'll be sure and correct myself.

I do have an M2 intake too... that may help. I don't remember it making much difference though as far as spool goes.

I have the poor mans, it boosted scary quick with 3" exhaust no emissions. I've since put a 3" highflow cat on it and it's road manners have improved but i've lost a great deal of speed. I will say that i am wondering what sequential feels like. I saw another post about ~7psi @2500rpm and it really piqued my interest because i don't make that much boost that soon. i probably have 5 or so lbs @3000. i'll have to pay more attention.

That said on the *same* engine 11lbs is 11lbs because there's no change in the amount of air delivered. so if i can get 11lbs to redline on sequentials then why the heck am i waiting for boost!

Nissan, I am getting 15 psi from ~3k rpm to redline. This is in lower gears. Obviously on the freeway, going slow in 5th gear, it is quite possible to hit 15 psi below 2500 rpm. I still can't figure out why people go non-sequential for a street-driven car.

Yeah, after searching about non-sequential cars, I concluded that since I want to still drive me car around on the street and have good spoolup on the highway, I'm going to take the little extra effort to stay sequential.

Hokay, well that pretty much answers my question. The former owner did claim that he intended to go single.

Snub, on the highway it doesn't matter. My car will make full boost on the highway in any gear except 5th and that's only because i haven't tried. I will say that it's hillarious to have someone pass me when i'm making 10in/hg of vacuum down shift or just put my foot down and pass them making 11lbs of boost.

So, how do i go about switching to sequential?

Edit: rynberg- who's turbos are you using? stockers, '99's, bnr's?

Edit, Edit: you're running bnrs, what could i expect within reason on my stockers?

I've got 3" all the way back, high flow cat, PFC. stock intake, thinkin about drilling it out.

The stockers spool a hair faster than the BNRs.

How much would a streetport affect the spool rate on non seq. oem twins? Planning on going that route soon.
