Non seq. guys....got some question for ya.

Ok guys....i'm one of those border line guys who can't decide if i want stay seq, or go non seq. I likes the bottom end pull of a stock system...but hates the 1.2 billion vaccum hoses. So i got a couple questions for ya.

What type of rpm range would the motor make close to max boost with a DP, MP, CB, M2 Intake, efini y pipe, stock mount ic, (see the spyfish ic, GB for the ic i just bought. Looks almost exactly like the m2 smic.) pettit ecu, ported waste gate, and removed double throttle? Perhaps a ported motor down the road?

How much money does it roughly cost in PARTS to do the conversion? Including the cost of block off plates. Assuming the turbos are'nt junk.

Is there any difference in hp vs the two? (Anyone got any dnyo charts?)

Thanks, CJ

as far as hp you gain a bit in the midrange, and are equal on the top... dp, mp cat back and a good boost contoller i got 12psi @ 3700 in 3rd gear, an then @ like 3500 in 4th and 5th...

sequental is great when it works, when it dosent its a bitch....

to do the converson...if you have a machiene shop that can weld mabe 50bux i mean i paid rp like 300 bux to do mine in 97 ( b4 i knew wht the hell was really involved in the conversion) i read trevs site for the how 2 and he put in cast plugs and what not...but the same can be accomplised with a tig welder...hell you pob could do it with mig but why chance it

theres only 1 block off plate you need to make wich is for the air by pass valve?? its the one on the y-pipe the back half portion, other then that everything can stay in... i made the block off plare out of a piece of scrap metal i had...just traced the oval on it went out back and cut it out..then put plenty of gasket maker under it.. tadow

if you get a ported motor it will help even more with spool

theres a way to just rig up the non-seq it just has one door wiredopen and one closed...i think its on the robrionettis site " the poor man non seq mod"

try it out to make shure you like it, if not get the vac hose job done

I'm working on dyno charts but the problem is I don't have them for the same mods. I make good or better power from about 3.5k now, but I have more mods now. The car is smoother and runs cooler. I'm headed to single turbo land so I figured I would try it out to see what I think. All in all it is ok. I think the car is slightly more fun in the sequential setup especially with a PowerFC and good tuning to get a real nice flat torque curve. The car does feel smoother now, but I never had the sequential setup as smooth as it could be. The car is much easier to work on now.

The cost of the conversion isn't too bad. I have kits for the emissions part of removing the block off plates. The block off plate kit is $85 and goes a long way to removing the rats nest. They can be had through me or through Jason w/ the RX-7 store. After that remove the turbos and manifold. Simply cut out the door in the manifold. Weld the precontrol door shut (I did mine open, but I think shut is better, but I have yet to prove this). Remove valve in y-pipe and weld over. If you have the ability to remove these parts and weld then the cost is free. You will need to convert to non-seq to remove the rest of the rats nest.

Oh yeah, regardless of what you do-ditch the Pettit ECU soon for the sake of your motor.

for the CRV on the back of the y-pipe simply connect to the manifold like the BOV and then you don't have to worry about it. You also get twice the flow. In reality I think the engine needs a better bov than stock. Then you could just cap the CRV nipple w/ 3/4" heater cap.

too bad you didn't get a hold of me when I was selling mine. I sold with all parts that was needed to make th conversion as well and all the welding and even the crossover pipe and manifold for $450. It only had 35K miles too

john

I got full boost at 4200 but I had a gutted cat not a mp

This question has been asked alot. I think the following link was the last time before this time:

Its funny that after about 3 times of going through the rats nest (None of them being sequential problem related), it really doesn't seem that bad anymore :p

One of my buddies DOES admit that while the non-seq mod has a flatter power curve, it's not as fun to drive as in seq mode, and he's run 11.7s with the seq setup on the stock turbos and ported motor.

I'm keeping it seq. Eventually, I'd like to upgrade to larger flow turbos to keep it sequential.
