no start troubleshooting
i had this in the general rotary tech section but no replies soooooooo i'm gonna put it here to get more views. we had finished putting my car together but it wasn't starting because of no spark.
i assumed it would either have to be: ignitor, coils, cas, or some sort of wiring issue. the coils and cas tested out fine, so we moved onto the ignition harness. found a pin that wasn't cooperating that kept popping out, so fixed that and tried it again. the car would crank, sputter, and then backfire LOUD. started testing the injectors to make sure they were firing, plugged everything back in and tried again. this time it started and ran for a bit before it killed itself....... heard somthing leaking under the car and looked , GAS dripping out my exhaust (found an exhaust leak atleast ha).
is it safe to say that what happend was, from trying to start the car all those times without it getting spark, that in the process it flooded the motor, and now everything should be fine once its not flooded anymore? does that seem like a logical turn of events?

if you were cranking for a long time with no spark you could have flooded your engine, pull out the leading plugs and see if they are wet. if so move on to whatever your favorite fd unflooding ritual is

ok we're still having the same problem....it runs and idles (very normal imho) but then dies in like 5 seconds. if we try starting the car and rev it it'll rev freely but then about 5 seconds in again it dies with a backfire. would it even alow us to start it if it was flooded still?

this will sound a little crazy but my brother was having similar problems with his car not starting after we replaced the plugs and installed a new radiator. it would just keep cranking and cranking but wouldn't fire. now is the crazy part, he had fuel and spark so the next time he cranked the moter over i went around to the muffler and put my hand to block the exhuast from escapeing and the damn thing fired right up! it did this same thing the other day and the hand on the muffler worked like a charm. just remember to get out of the way after it kicks over as backfires suck if you have a beard

Bump for a good guy.
I know he bypassed the ignintion system, has a new wiring harness and a power FC to run things. From what I remember the Power FC doesn't have any kind of "kill" setup on it, so this is a real mystery.

SOMEONE PLEASE HELP! the engine is not flooded, and the fuel filter is brand new. i'm almost thinking this is a bad map thats loaded onto the pfc. everything checks out the way it should otherwise, fuel/ignition wise. we are completely stumped on this when it does run its running EXTREMELY rich like 11:1 is the leanest it gets at idle, anything leaner than that it just wants to die even sooner

If the car starts but dies, it could be flooded or you have a clogged fuel filter.
And make sure you have proper fuel pressure.
