To some people looks are half the car. To others looks are all the car. To people like me, I wax the car because I don't want the body to rust. It's all about your personality. All I know is I like the feeling when I punch the throttle and the leather bucket seat starts sqeeeeeeeeeezing me! I like pulling U-turns at 25mph! I like the whine of the turbos! However, I don't care if anyone is around to see me and my ferrocious asphalt ripper. It's better this way, because they won't know what they are missing.

A stock body FD with a nice set of wheels is good enough for me.

Most people that own a real sports car are more concerened with the speed/hanlding of the car than the are with tacking on a piece of fiberglass that looks nothing like the rest of the car and does nothing for performance. Most sports cars already look good from the factory as the are. A lot of time went into developing the styling of the car before it was produced as well as how that styling really affects downforce, drag, lift etc. If looks is all you are after get a Civic and three thousand dollars worth of fiberglass and bondo and go to town a set of crome wheels and a huge exhaust tip and you're ready to cruise, just don't be suprised when a Vett, RX7,Supra, Porsche, ETC. driver pulls along side and for the 1/2 second or so before he blasts by you looks over and smiles like your fly is open.

i am refering to the individual qualities you seek in the forum, e.g. search: tint, search: rims, search: coil over, search: body kit

I suggest you actually look the car over at 5 feet, get in, and drive far a bit before saying its "no show."

that's the point i was trying to make azndisgrace,
there's seperate threads dedicated to the looks of the car, its just a matter of looking
well, as far as the original subject of the thread, most people here, IMO, do "go" first because the car is a first class performance machine that most enthusiastic drivers will want to push to the limits, whether it be handling, 1/4 mile times, road race times, etc.

When I think of exterior modifications they run a couple ways.

When I upgrade rims, it will be to go 17, so I can also do a brake upgrade. It will also be when I have worn down my current rubber.

My first "exterior" mod will be a functional one, a Mazdaspeed Replica Hood for better cooling. Actually my first one might be removing the stock "boy racer" spoiler on my R2. That would make the end a lot cleaner.

The next exterior mod would be the replica 99 nose.

Before that though, I have a buttload of **** to install (gauges, oil coolers, radiator, batter relocation, y-pipe), and an intercooler to purchase first...

the reason why some of us go "go" before "show" really is the bang for the buck. If you throw say 3000 at the RX7 in go, you can easily add 100rwhp or more. If you throw 3000 bucks at looks, you can get some nice 18s, and springs/shocks.. That's about it. to me the 100rwhp addition is a better "bang" than the looks aspect. And agreed, teh 7 looks good stock, there is no doubt about it.

I think body kits look clunky on such a smooth bodied car. At least to me they do. Nothing against the cars that do have them... It's just my opinion...

I'd definitly go with go before show. The car looks great stock, and generally bodykits break up the lines that make it so great.

hes not talking about body kits, read his responses hes basically talking about little things that dont take away from the car, rather, they add to it. Me personally I'd love to get window tints and rims, but rims cost too much (the ones i like do). But the window tints i am seriously considering, the only problem is i want a one piece tint for the back, and that ends up being like twice as much here. but with that $200 i could get a Petit AST as well as like 50 type-r stickers (j/k). people here are more about function over form, thats all

As for me I believe that if you have a low 13 second car or less than you will beat 90 percent of the people out their. You need gauges and other reliability mods. I have most of them out of the way. I want to go single turbo eventually and I hate when people stuff big intercoolers into the stock bumpers. I am not a fan of side mounts either. Thats why I am going to get a body kit. My car would look like crap with just a front bumper. I have a base model so I am getting a suspension too. I already ran 13.3's so I feel like I can do other things other than perfomance. I have a huge need for speed so more performance parts will come soon.
Basically if you split performance and styling equally starting with performance I have no problem with it.

off topic, but how much is tinting the rear window if you want one piece vs 2 or 3?? I have not gotten an estimate yet.

I picked my car up the other day from a shop looking over an issue I had and they were laughing saying how all the guys coming by the shop took a look at my car and said "why bother" with all the mods I've done because they're practically invisible just looking at it....Then they said I'm one of the very few that has come in there and focused on soundness and performance despite my broken headlights, dents in the body, and peeling paint.

All in good time... Just awaiting on some parts.

FD owners are performance owners not posers in general. Performance comes first, styling a distant second - hell we already have a beautiful car. I'm changing my bod a bit only because I want to install teh Scoot hood and front bumper for perf reasons (I hope) and feel I need to balance it out. Plus I do need the paint job after almost a decade of abusing it

but one thing i have noticed FD owners are not one to turn down cosmetics if they do have some sort of other function. IE aftermarket vented hoods, lighter and/or wider rims. but also when you think about it most performance parts actually do add cosmetic value. intakes look prettier than the airbox. a new IC looks better. so you get both looks and performance. also something else i noticed is it seems a lot of owners(myself included) will do quite a few inexpensive cosmetic upgrades. IE 99 tails, polishing, painting dash etc etc. as daviddeco said FD owners (in general) are not performance posers, infact id say we are the complete opposite.

also whoever asked about the tint when i said 1 piece i mean that only one piece of film is used to cover the entire back class. not too sheets with a line through the middle.

I got mine tinted for 150 sides and back. The back is 2 pieces and you would never be able to tell the difference between mine and a one piece.
