No More for now

i am now joining the No More For Now club.

less than 24hrs after the happiest moment in my life (proposed to my gf) i experienced the saddest.

some time around 7 this evening i was riding with my buddy in my 7. whien smoke began bellowing out from the engine compartment. i got the hood popped and saw fire. i had no extinguisher, and in a matter of moments it was gone.

luckily we were fine, how ever the car was not. hopefully i will be working on getting an other soon. and when i do it will be bigger and better.

i will look at it as the story of a phoenix, from the ashes a new stronger animal will arise.

for now i will just bask in the glow of my fiancee's smile and thank god my friend and i were ok.

Please tell me that you would never pour water at an engine fire.

awsome. Hey man trust me I can relate I lost my first FD due to an engine fire. It sucked but full coverage insurance sure helped with the the pain process.

No that comment wasn't meant for you, it was for RLaoFD who made a suggestion about always carrying water, and since this thread is about an engine fire one would hope that he wasn't suggesting using it...

I'm another one, I just got my second one on saturday to replace the one I lost in may. Keep your head up and don't let the ins. company try and screw you over, show them examples of cars worth a lot more than yours too, they'll bite.

I think he meant water so he could pour it over his own head as he realized he wouldn't be able to stop the fire....

On a more serious note, I always drive around with a fire extinguisher in the car rated for chemical fires.

fire!!

My brother and I got lucky. When the motor caught fire, it just so happened to be right in front a coworker of mines house, who had a fire extinguisher. Like I said, lucky.

Remember it, and rebuild dude. Congrats on the engagement, best of luck to you two.

A $116.00 new fuel pulsation dampner can save thousands.

To anwer your question it can be cause by several things but most if not all are preventable.

Fuel Pulsation dampner
Bad front cover oil leak
Oil leak from turbos
External Fuel leak from top of factory injectors(more common then most realize)
Then the dreaded electrical fire which can really only be avoided by new wiring harnesses, most of the times you will never see there is a problem before it is too late.

I saved an fd's life on the interstate about 5 years ago throwing water on an oil caused engine fire It worked wonderfully, I sure as hell wasnt going to let the car burn to the ground if I could prevent it, it happened about 30 miles from my house on a weekend I bought 3 fds and me and friends drove them back from FL. It was about 4 am and it was my only option.

Not only what superdan50 said but you DONT always know what would be the cause of an engine fire.

It could be an electrical fire. water + electric = yikes

Fire extinguisher is the best thing to carry. Use the water for when you overheat or something lol
