Question No Boost!!!!!!????

Im buying my first Rx-7. It's a 94, and the car seems to have a problem. I searched for somethng similar but found nothing. The idles fine, doesn't blow any smoke. When you drive it, the boost is on and off. It'll start to boost then stop. I then stopped the car and opened the hood. I revved the motor and put my ear down towards the turbos. When the engine decelerated, almost before Idle I heard a little click noise coming from the turbo area. I am convinced that this may be a stuck wastegate of a problem with that turbo to turbo exhasust valve. Sorry, not sure of the name. Anyway, does anyone have any insight to a possible problem???? I love the car, I love the price I'm getting it for. Does it sound like a serious problem or from what Ive said do you think that I'm close. Thanks Guys....

You need to be a little more specific about the problem. If you were to accelerate in 3rd gear from 3000 rpms on what would it do? Does it build boost until 4500 then loose all boost? Does it have a boost gauge? If so, what was it showing?

Sorry for the Vagueness. At any rate, the car will cut in and out of boost throughout the RPM range. It happens in all gears and at all rpms, throttle position. Feels almost like it is N/A. I can barely hear the blowoff when I let off. Acceration is not very smooth.
Does that help...

Unfortunately boost problems are almost impossible to diagnose without a boost gauge. You really need to see what's going on. See if you can borrow one from someone to help diagnose the problem.

For my first checks should I look for boost leak. I am going to install a boost gauge. I'll look for leaks, all the hoses are stock. Nothing has been touched. It waas sitting for a while too.

I would say that there is a leak if the hoses from the factory are still on there. They get hard and brittle from all teh heat and age. I would definately check into a silicone (or other) hose upgrade.
