Nitrous?? yah or nah?

im looking for a bit more horsepower. im already pushing 15lbs. on a 62-1, should i raise the boost or spray nitrous? what size nitrous shot doesnt require a tune? and if i raise the boost i will have to retune. (trying to avoid a re-tune for now lol) ive never really been a nitrous guy so any knowledge that you have to offer is helpful. thanks guys

You're still going to need a retune if you use nitrous. It works in the same way, more oxygen. You will need more fuel.

spray alky then up the boost.

some folks run a small shot of nitrous; however, the rotary engine is more prone to detonation problems then a standard piston engine. the tolerance for bad things to happen is smaller in the rotary engine.

again, i say spray water or alky and then you should be able to turn the boost up AND have the piece of mind that you're not going to blow something mistakenly in the process.... although there are limits. check out the auxillary injection forum on here.

If you want a modified FD you need to learn that a re-tune every time you change anything should be the norm unless you really enjoy replacing engines. More power = retune every time.

Oh yeah, most people that I hear ask about nitrous (and follow through) come back a few weeks later asking about rebuilds. Dont even look at nitrous unless you really know what you are doing in enough capacity that you dont need to ask anybody about it.

Nitrous is gr8 and safe if done right..... the only way you should use nitrous IMO is foggers with stand alone fule system.. you should not need a re-tune if your nitrous system is set up right.. if it adds its own fuel you dont have to worry about it going lean.. with my set up i have 4 port fogger set up with a stand alone methanol fuel system and msd diggy 6 boxes that retard the motor for nitrous with i flip the nitrous on... its very safe that way

never blew 1 up caz of nitrous... a racing beat holley blew 1 up an oil problem blew another up and i have picked a few up that where bad lol.. but never from nitrous

i have see n my fair shair of blown up motors.. i just rebuild them and make them better.

you ever used nitrous? most ppl that say stay away from it have never even road in a car that had it... long as you use it right you will have no problem with it...

besides its not that much money to build a new motor

cheers PaTricK

i ran a 50 shot for awhile. a wet system. i think a wet system is better because it doesnt rely on your injectors for extra fuel. Changing jets is simple. one thing nice about nitrous is it also gets larger turbo's spooling faster.

I removed my system when i went single turbo cause i didnt want the extra clutter in the hatch. The whole system is now for sale if you're interested.

given the nature of a boosted rotary to blow on its own, nitrous is something id stay VERY far away from. Boost increase with a retune just seems like a safer direction to head in.

thanks guys, i guess it would be more expensive anyway to buy a nitrous kit. ill just retune the high boost. but what about alcy/meth injection??

running higher boost might become a game of minimal return for much worse adiabatic efficiency.

Nitrous can be used (when used properly) to actually be safer than more boost to achieve the same power levels.... while running lower IATs, and less wear and tear on the turbos, and less overall heat created.

But like I said, only when set up properly should nitrous even be considered.

Ive go the 62-1 at 20lbs 496.0 h/p and you wont see nozzzzz near my car, ive blown up my share of fc's and only had luck on a stock port na. Certain ports are like cams with the wrong overlap and detonation is easy to find!
If your not an expert already i would leave it to the piston people plus its over $5.00 lb.

Go with alky injection. It is much safer and you can then turn up the boost

I would go with more boost. Nos in rotaries is more of a hassle. So I have heard.
