newbie to RX's

so being a sports car fan, and one who likes to tinker. I would like to know what it takes in an average year to maintain and upkeep the FD TT.

My dad's side of the family has always liked rotaries, but found them to be a little difficult to maintain. But me I don't care. I own a beat up porsche anyways.

Just looking for a second car to take me around with a smile on my face. I live in Boulder CO so I don't mind if it breaks down here and there, I can always ride my bike or take a bus.

My friend has an older RX7 convertible. It is a damn cool car. I fell in love with his, but he won't sell. So i'm here to see what it takes to upkeep/maintain and all in general see what it takes to own this car.

Any advice would be nice.

FAQ is your friend. Everything depends on year and induction type. Also, Modifications play a big role in the upkeep/maintenance/safe running territory.

Here is a link to the 3rd gen FAQ:

Hope this helps. These threads should answer any questions you have regarding purchasing, and upkeeping, and modifying your soon to be RX7.

Knowledge is power. And one more tidbit: Always err on the side of safety, or you'll be investing more money than expected a lot sooner than expected. Research and enjoy!

Get a low mileage car or one with an engine rebuild if its got 60k miles plus. You generally get what you pay for with these. If the car doesnt feel right when you drive it, dont let the owner bullshit you into "oh its just a fuse"

If the car skips a beat on the test drive, walk away. If teh car dumps coolant or leaves any puddles underneath it, walk away. If the car doesnt have a boost gauge, take one with you. Check the boost pattern, askfor history, be meticulous. Dont get drawn into buying a looker with a **** engine.

MAintanance wise, i do oil change every 2k, fuel filter change every 10k, spark plug change every 5k. Keep ontop of EVERYTHING and renew things systematically rather than when they break, youll do just fine.

I always lok at these cars as a woman. Treat em well, they will serve you nice and give you endless pleasure. **** her off, she will take all of your money and run off with it.
