Newbie needs a little help......

ok. all i know is ive heard people talking about haveing a third gen 'FD'. now all i know is that this is some type of engine. i dont know if its a jspec or what. if i knew the last letters of the engine i could do a search, but all i know is that its called the FD. im buying a 94 rx7 in mid to late december. if the fd motor has anything to do with my car, maybe i should know this. dont flame me too much, ive spent a little time trying to find this 'fd' engine. thanks for your help.

The "FD" term refers only to the 3rd generation (1993-1995 in the US)RX-7. The 1st generation cars (1979-1985) are FB's, and the 2nd Gen (1986-1991) are the FC's. You will notice the letters FD in your VIN, JM1FDXXXXXXXXXXXXX.

Hope this answers your question

Ahh.. what the hell

Serial numbers fro RX-7's all start JM1. The first body style (the sharp pointy nosed ones from the late 70's to 1985) are JM1FB....... The dots being the rest of the VIN.

Second gen, (rouns nose, larger than the first gens) 1986 - 1991, JM1FC...

Third gen, the sexiest body since Ferrari GT250, 1993 to 1996 in the US, I think until 2001 everywhere else, JM1FD... Thus the FD

well, the last year here was 95 as you probably already know. they kept making them in japan until i believe 01 ? and the newer ones (jspec of course) claim 280 hp. I believe for the same year however the horsies were equal.
