New v-mount set up

Would a set up like this be possible for the 13b? or is the radiator to small? Might be an awesome group buy idea for some of the vendors on here.

thats a pretty sweet setup. i like the idea but i personally wouldnt sacrifice water cooling for colder air... IMO, something similar could be achieved without sacrifice cooling.

The only difference in that set up over majority set ups is the intake duct. i think a better design would be using the stock radiator since it fills out 90% of the area. then use a smaller intercooler and offset it to the LHD side. then make your intake on the side of the IC.

I agree, or somehow grab cool air by inserting a snorkel type duct into the v mount ducting to grab air from in front of the v mount and force it into an intake box inside the engine bay. Easier said than done obviously, but thanks for sharing.

That's really impressive quality on that tubular push bar he made and the v-band clamps for the intercooler.

The first pic with the filter in the inlet is nice for cold air but that's a track-only solution. A street car would be drinking a ton of water there, way not good.

Second pics with the fans, never a good idea to put a fan in front of the heat exchanger unless you HAVE to for packaging reasons. That's a big block to airflow.

Don't see anything there that hasn't been done on an FD. It's just a typical V-mount really.

Why not sacrifice intercooler area instead of radiator area? Pretty sure people do this all the time. Seen it on the board. Especially helps with the newer manifolds pushing the turbo further forwards, where you need extra space for a long filter.

I would never weld a v-mount on a crash bar, ever! The v-band is a nice touch but the v-mount is a typical IC idea on any race car.

Dvo, In my opinion the intake temps going into the turbo are not as important as the size of the intercooler, so i would agree with you. Make more room for the IC rather than for a cold air intake.

I wouldn't necessarily say it's a big block of air flow. If everything is ducted properly, the air will still have to pass through the fans whether they are placed before or after the rad. The air is still going through both regardless of what's first.


Now what I do like about the first setup is that they used the entire width of the frame to fit the IC. Typically you see Fd owners trying to mount the end tank within the frames. This set-up has the end tank over top the frame therefore allowing full exposure to the core. Very efficient!

I think the OP was just wanting to show how the intake was also integrated with the setup. but yeah there are quit a few people already doing something like that. look at the bergenholtz rx8 vmount. its reallll nice

yeah better to have less ic than rad.. the setup is quality work for sure, but they could have made it a lot less intrusive.

here is what im doing for my twins. arc intake has filters on top and bottom, and since there is so much free space in front of the box i might duct some air up to the top also. hopefully i can get my duct work as nice as the one in the OP's link!
