I just had my rebuilt turbos redone, because of an internal seal had failed. Fortunately, the turbos were warrantied and I paid nothing. But, what's the best break-in mileage for the turbos? I've heard 300 miles, 500 miles ... even 100 miles (sounds a lil' fishy). What is the general consensus on this?

 

I don't think turbos really have a break in period.

 

Probably a few hundred miles of normal driving to break in the bearings. I wouldn't do any dyno runs after just installing them but I think a few spirited runs wouldn't hurt.

Uh yeah they have bearings. Not ball bearings, but they do have bearings.

 

Just put some clean engine oil into the turbo oil inlet and spin the compressor wheels a few times.

Pull the EGI fuse and crank the car to build oil pressure.

Check the compressor wheel to see if it can spin.

Warm up the car for a few minutes (5 or so).

Run a few times with low boost before high boosting.
