New tune for new engine?

I am about to replace my stock reman for another stock reman. The reason I am replacing it is because I cracked a couple apex seals on the first one from boost creep. Sooooo.... Would I need to re-tune the car for the new engine. Even though it's the same as the old one??? (stock reman with stock ports)

ClifNotes---

Old engine--Stock reman
New Engine---Stock Reman

Do I re-tune it????

we need some information on your mods... if your pretty much all stock i wouldnt do it. if you have the money its usually 150 for the tuner and 100+ for a dyno not really expensive in my mind. list your mods

PFC
1300cc Sec.
Apexi RX-6 Kit (Mani, Turbo,Downpipe)
full exhaust
upgraded fuel system

Pretty much a typical single turbo setup.

If the only change is the engine itself, then no retuning is necessary. If the new engine is ported or you've installed any modded components, then retune.

The only new variable will be the deletion of power steering on the new engine and a new koyo radiator.

Theoretically it's not neccisary, but in practice a new motor can "Flow" differently.... I've also seen N.A. Rotors in turbo cars etc... on remans.... so theortically no retune is neccisray, but in practice you never know how a new motor will respond to the old fule / spark setup....

Case and Point. My 94 FD had been tuned by AEM conservative @ 10 PSI

My new(er) '93 that I replaced it with, got the same ECU, with the same mods, and blew a seal on an Onramp..... why ? How ? Different motor -> different quirks....

Look at it this way. Tune = 250. Motor = 2k. Take your pick. Why not just be careful and tune it, no harm done.

I'd have to think if your old motor was tuned right - in particular items like idle and response through accel - and you know your gas mileage and the car comes back with new engine and responds no differently. I'd just roll with it.

Though should one get better gas mileage w/o power steering? Is that change enough to justify retune? probably not.

But you did blow an engine which you believe was caused by boost creep. What are you doing about that?

He has an external wastegate, boost creep shouldn't be much of an issue.

After motor break-in, it wouldn't be a bad idea to make sure your AFRs at WOT are dialed in.

I switched my exhaust to an Apexi Gt spec. THe bigger exhaust was too much for the wastegate. 23psi on pump gas=

The boost will hold at 15psi if I use the silencer in the exhaust but I am getting a boost controller for the new engine just to be sure.

I think I would listen to Rich. Take it easy on the motor, no boost and what not. Do the normal break in. Then take it to get tuned. Chances are you will end up with better fuel economy and possibly more power. Thats worth the money if you ask me.
