New Purge Control Valve Failing

I just replaced my purge control valve troubleshooting a vacuum leak issue, and was double checking all the lines that connect to the UIM to make sure all the lines were functioning as designed, and noticed that the purge control valve was leaking again. I mounted it horizontally, when it looks like it should be mounted vertically with the nozzles down, so will try that. When I went to check resistance it was in spec at 32 Ohms. Any recommendations, or has anyone used an aftermarket valve?

Exactly which valve are you talking about? The one near the throttle. body?

How do you know it's leaking?

The valve that hangs on by the front engine hook, that feeds the gas trapped from the charcoal canister to the UIM, and it can mount more than one way, it just has a tab to stabilize itself. I know its leaking because I did a vacuum test with a mityvac and it wasn't holding vacuum when it is not receiving power, and power cycled it to see if it was just caught midway through.

May just want to run some WD-40 or something through it to clean it out. May just be something that's keeping the valve inside from seating closed.

Spray it out and work it with 12v some to see if you can get it to seat.

Thanks Dale,

Will try that as well. Also I think which hose is connected to which fitting really matters, looked at the vacuum diagram, and noticed I had connected them backwards. Tested it, and the bottom line will hold vacuum, but the top will not. Thought that they should hold in both directions, but oh well, the workshop manual wasn't very clear on testing procedures for testing the valve and which port to blow in. Just for future reference if someone is replacing/installing a new purge control valve, connect the bottom fitting (B in workshop manual) to the UIM and the top fitting to the charcoal canister

it is a 3 way valve, so the hoses do need to go to the right places. i think the tab on the valve locks to the solenoid rack?

Actually I think that valve is a 2-way. The turbo control valve version is a 3-way with a vent to atmosphere.

Yeah, there's a little alignment tab that should go into a hole in the bracket.
