You know, Ray told me that it was 12K 12 month on the engine. I specifically asked him how they are supposed to monitor the mileage if I intall it myself. Unfortunately, I don't remember exactly what he told me, but it was something like, 'Don't worry about it.' 12 month unlimited miles sounds reasonable.

PUT THE T-STAT back IN. You can't run the FD without the T-STAT, it is actually a two way valve and prevents the coolant from recirculating in the block when open. If you remove it then coolant won't make it to the rad.

I don't think you have a problem.

hmmm ok, so your saying put the T-Stat back in and have it run the exact same temp? Because that is what it does... the exact same thing... And yes you can run the car without a T-State, especially to troubleshoot wether that is cause the problem or not. True, it is not good to run it constantly without it in, but there should be absolutely no reason for the car to heat up to 100C with the T-Stat out...

The T-stat is actually a two way valve. When the engine is cold, the coolant recirculates in the block, the water pump still pumps water, when it is warm it directs coolant to the rad only.

When the engine is warm the T-stat opens and the coolant will be forced to go to the radiator. Look at the back of the T-stat, see the quarter sized piece of metal? Look at the waterpump housing, see the hole that it would cover when the engine warms up?

Sounds like you've only idled the car, not run it on the street. Drive it on the street, see what happens.

Do what you want, I'm sure you've worked on more of these cars than me...

They don't seem to be able to count months either. I know someone that had a reman "warrantied" after two years.

Warranties vary depending on the price and the dealer. I have seen price quotes from the same dealer for 1 year and 2 year warranties as well as 12,000 miles and unlimited miles warranty. It all depends on what the dealer marks up the engine as being sold at.

Nobody is wrong, it is just varying degrees of right.

For some reason I doubt that...

I know what your saying, but I have tried this on many Rx7's. Taking the thermostat out causes the car to hover around 70-85C depending on the temperature outside...

Are you driving the car or just letting it idle?

Tried driving it around and letting it idle... i was too skeered to take it farther than around the block, because it always started to get hotter...

btw, Malloy is sending me another Engine. Ray is very helpful and a great guy to deal with. I dont think I'll ever buy a reman anywhere else.

how are you monitoring the temps? via a pfc and the stock sensor? it is possible the sensor has gone bad. there's three ways to check this.

1. replace with a new sensor

2. take out the current one and test with an ohmeter and make sure it is in the specified range and changes linearly with temperature

3. get a pyrometer and check temperatures all around of the radiator, hoses, etc.
