New (at least to me) Apex seals

Being an airplane monkey, I like the way these guys think. It's about time for a bulletproof seal...

I sure would like to know if Bruce Turrentine is using them since he is GOD. Think I'll shoot him an E-mail.

Check 'em out here in the "engine products" area:

I guess the repost police only frequent the lounge. They sound grea, but there are already reports of someone blowing these unblowable seals.

They only post i've seen with a guy blowing his engine with these were by someone in NJ i think by the name of jspec with a black and white avitar. But on the nopistons forum he had posted info leading me to believe the apex seals were not at fault.

rotary aviation 2mm apex seals

After seeing a post on here about apex seals with a link to these apex seals.
http://www.rotaryaviation.com/2_mm_apex_seals.htm

I sent them a Email asking.

I have been told that harder apex seals tend to do alot of damage to the rotor housing and rotor if they fail, where stock mazda seals tend to do less damage. Do you have any information about what will happen with your seals if they fail.
This is the reply I got back.
"We've been wondering the same thing Craig. So far, no one has managed to break one, even at 30 PSI of boost @ 8500 RPM. Just had a customer severely detonate at 15 PSI boost (due to low fuel pressure/ lean mixture) and they still didn't break."

what do you guys think..

Thank you,
Craig K

Well I'm not from New Jersey, but My avatar is black and white on the NP forum(it's a pic of the top of my cosmo 13B intake)

I've been using atkins 2mm apex seals and have had a hard time keeping my engine's from blowing. The Atkins seals don't like high EGTs. But when they blow up, they don't do any damage. We'll see what these RA seals do...I've had them in for quite a while and they're still running strong.

just a thought, on their website they say that these seals are 85% stronger. does that mean that they are 15% weaker? i think that they meant 185% stronger??

are they stronger or weaker?

No dude, 85% stronger, not 85% as strong. Big difference there.

For further clarification, 100% stronger is twice as strong .

I just bought a couple of sets....still can't decide 2mm or 3mm. If they're that strong then i'll probably end up using 2mm.

i am probably going to purchase a few more sets for my other motors and about 3 or 4 extra sets if they work good in my 3rd gen. they said the price will go up. about $500 or about the same as the mazda seals. i dont want to be there when that happens.
