New Here

I posted another thread in the General Tech area, just to get my feet wet and get my questions out there. First, my name's Jared, I'm a poor college student who lives in Texas, working at a newspaper and hoping to God that I'll die before I spend another year there.
Either way, just bought a beautiful 93 RX7, she's got quite a bit done to her and she's goregeous. I love that car to death. Anyways, once I sell my car she's probably going down to Rotary Performance to get a tune, then a new clutch. So anyways, I'm looking to be in the 12's before winter, and the 11's before next summer. I'm realistic about this whole idea, I'm not under the impression that I'm going to turn 10's over night. So, any and all help is appreciated! Thanks guys!
P.S. Pics of her are on the attachments.

Nice looking car!!! (But then again, I may be a little biased ).

Congrats on the new purchase. Use the button a lot (I do), as most questions have been posted before. There's soooo much knowledge on this board, it's astounding. Good luck with it!

You admit you're poor but you want 11s by next summer? I wouldn't call that realistic

based on the asumption that your car is bone stock, to get into the '11s' you are probably going to spend about what you paid for the car or more.
1.) Reliabilty Mods- ~$800+labor
2.) Exhaust+ HiFlow- ~$900 + labor
3.) Stand Alone ECU- ~$1100 + tuning
4.) Upgraded IC- ~$1200 + install
5.) Single Turbo or BNR kit- ~$3500
6.) HKS twin power ignition ~$600
7.) Upgraded fuel system ~$1100
and what they hey, lets throw in a new motor because based on your post, you will probably pop your first $3500. I probably am missing a bunch of stuff but its morning and I just woke up.
TOTAL= $12,700 and that is if you do everything yourself.

Ha!

I'm poor now. More than likely in the next year I'll be done with College and therefore able to get a job that pays me more than what I'm making now. So pessimistic, either of you guys in the 11's?

I'm sure that I am close if not, but I probably won't ever know. I'm not a 1/4 mile person and never take my car to the drag strip.

I wouldnt know nor would I care what my 1/4 is. Using the 7 for drag is like hiring the boston philharmonic to play happy birthday. The car was designed for the track and handling, not straight line accel.
As to the money, a job out of college isnt going to just cure everything. I make a good bit over 40k a year and I still have to save up for parts due to other responsibilities.
My advice is to save up about 3-4k and hold that in a savings account for emergency money. Trust me, you will need it. Dont touch it unless something goes wrong (ie the engine blowing). After you have that saved up, spend about a month or two working with a local guy who knows the 3rd gen really well and map out what you want to do to the car and a timeline to do it in. The 13B-REW is not te 2JZ, its not bulletproof and you cant just start throwing mods on it.
Most of us on here are very helpful and know a little bit about these cars. Heed our advice or go it your own, its your car and your money.

Thanks for the great advice! So then a motor swap is a definite necessity? I've heard a lot about drifting and track runs, but where I live its mostly muscle cars, any suggestions as to how I can locate a drift track or a circle track? At this moment I don't have any other responsibilities - the only thing I'm busy with at this moment in time is my car and a house payment. No other responsibilties are involved. Either way, thanks guys, everyone told me this is the place to come for good info.

Get with your local RX7 club. There are many RX7 owners in the great state of Texas that track their cars. Oklahoma isn't that far away from you and there is a very good track there:
