Is that the PPF near the rear differential? I hear that is a pretty common breaking point... There isn't very much support there.

Might want to weld it and add some extra seal for additional support?

It looks like the power plant frame (ppf). You can get reinforced ones, or just buy another used from the buy/sell forum. Definitely don't try to get this one repaired - entirely not worth it.

yeah i removed the other half of the ppf on the diff, it came off in two pieces, im not very impressed, i was planning on taking the car to do some autocrossing tomorrow, but i guess its better that it happend a block from my house not on a track.

who sells aftermarket ppf's? i know mazdaspeed had one now discontinued. I'd like somthing stronger.

Most people add additional steel on their own to beef it up.

Just get a stock one and add some support.

Check with 'Fritz Flynn' - he may have a stock one to sell you.

A stocker will hold up just fine until you source a reinforced version. Massive failures like that are uncommon - I've only heard of cracks leading to excessive flexing.

That is a pretty impressive break. I've never seen one that severe either. What were you doing when it actually broke?

well i was working with my buddy, so i didn't drive my car until like around 8-9 pm just to run to the liquer store, i was going around 50ish KMH down the street, and my buddy pulls up in the lane next to me and he dropped a gear and gunned it, i laughed...then i down shifted to 2nd and gave some gas to catch up...then hell broke loose, i belive thats when the driveshaft withdrew from the tranny, i got out and rolled it into a parking lot...really scared me i thought the engine blew.

I don't think I've ever seen that brace before in that picture. I sure as hell don't think I have one. Maybe a better picture would help.....

it's shown in picture's up there, held by two bolts on both sides of the driveshaft, and looks like to be made of aluminum

I can't remember which FDs have that extra brace, but not all came with it. I'd have to do a search to figure if it's an R1/R2 thing or a 93/94-95 thing. My car has it and it's a 94 R2.

I believe it is just splined, you just have to line it up and push it back in. AS long as there is no damage to the splines, if so you'll need to repair it.
