New FD

Picked this up the other day. It doesnt run, the previous owner isnt sure why, so im just going to rebuild the motor and take it from there. The interior is in pretty good condition considering the car has been sitting in the Florida sun for over 6 years. No cracks in the dash or anything. The paint is faded pretty bad, but thats expected.

I'm pretty stoked to be 17 and have a car like this. I know ill take good care of it.

Here are the first plans
-Rebuilt motor
-Convert to single turbo (GT35R)
-Eibach prokit springs
-Respray
-Wheels
-Racing Beats exhaust
And also try to bring the leather back as much as possible.

Here are a few pictures

congratulations and good luck. the addiction begins! haha have fun man, just make sure u dont over spend and make sure u spend the money in the right places before u try and do a single turbo swap. believe me these are really fun cars to drive and stock they are quite enough until u get used to it. if u havent already, read the FAQs and do all the reliability mods before any other performance stuff. then get sum good tires and suspension and u will have wayyyy too much fun haha. then when ur used to it, attempt the single swap. just remember, ur 17 and unless pops is frontin the bill, this is an expensive car to own so dont kill urself with debt.

ok enough said, have fun man!

hey man - i feel ya on this one
take it easy and do things right even if it means saving your money up for a month longer to get that mod you really want
in the end, if you do it right, you'll get all your cash back on resell....

I was 17 when i got mine to. Word of advice: be patient, make a goal and stick to it. Maintain it well and take good care of it and it will take good care of you.

Good luck and congrats!

Thanks for the support fellas.

I picked it up for $1500. I got it for a steal.

The reason im interested in the single turbo is i dont really wanna rebuild the stock twins, cause im sure they'll need it. So im kinda thinking less moving parts would make it more reliable.

I've heard the rumors of these things just being huge money pits. But being that im a junior in highschool and got college coming up soon. I just want a nice DD to play with a little on the way to and from school.

lol i hope that DD u speak of is not going to be the FD...it can be done, i used to do it, but gas will rape u and its just simply not the best for that job. personally i bought a honda civic as my DD and its by far the best choice i have made. i drive the civic to school and work since its close by and gas is a killer. and i drive my FD whenever i go out. Oh and autocross that way i dont put unnecessary miles on it (going to work only puts the car at risk of getting dinged or hit, and school would kill the car cuz of haters that will key your car or ding it up maybe even hit it. besides ur not gonna be driving it for all that while ur at school or work) and i only drive it to have fun which is what its meant to be for.

just my 2 cents. its ur car and u should do whatever u want i take every precaution so that my car doesnt get damaged and i still got a lil scratch on my door!! oh well.

oh and ya those rumors are true....haha this car is like a drug, once u start modding u cant stop. i am constantly looking for the next little thing i can get for my FD to make it look better or make it run better. its very fun so u gotta watch out or the FD will bite u in the ***!

Nice find!! $1500 ... wow... in canada that'd go for $10K+ :O

anyways, I would recommend you buying a set of used twins from a reputable member of this forum (like fritz for example) for $500 if you need a new set.... the single turbo conversion will cost you at LEAST $4-5000 after you upgrade the whole fuel system/intake/ecu/intercooler, etc.

if the car has been sitting for 6 years, you will probably need brake calipers/tires/all new fluids/tune-up for a start as well

ohh and if you want this as a daily driver (like mine is) then you should keep the power levels close to stock... after about 350hp these things get stupid crazy fast, and quite unreliable.... better suited for a 'weekend warrior'

Congrats!

to "keep it simple" I would stick with the twins for now. It costs an arm and a leg to do a single turbo setup the right way. On top of the single turbo kit you need a major fuel system upgrade.

You can buy a set of good used twins for $200-500 all day long. Hell, I have a couple sets hanging around in my garage. I am sure I am not the only one! Maybe get some BNR's?

Great find! Good luck with it!

wow. $1500. That might be a record.

Well start off with getting the engine checked out and doing maintenance work - anyone dumb enough to sell a running FD for $1500 is certainly not smart enough to know what a fuel filter is.

As soon as you can, do some autocrossing and drivers' schools. In fact spring is when many SCCA clubs host intro driving skills schools. You do not want to learn about oversteer in traffic or on a slippery road.

BTW, that turtle wax color cure polish will really fill in the color. Take your time with it.

Yeah you're probably right about the gas and DD thing. But i drive an 03 F150 now, which is a pig, so im hoping to do atleast a little better then that

I'm sure once i actually start driving it, i will not actually drive it as much as im saying. I'm pretty **** about the way i treat my stuff, so we'll see.

I'm in Newark, but unfortunately i dont think the car will be seeing Ohio.
We're in the process of moving to Florida which is where the car is, so its just going to stay here i believe.

And thanks for the advice.

Yeah the first thing that is going to happen is the motor is going to be pulled out and inspected for worn parts and replaced. Not gonna take any chances.

I really hoped to be doing some autocross or road tracking this summer. But chances are the car wont be done until the middle of summer considering im still in school up in Ohio.

It will be great though. Thanks for all the advice and words everyone. I appreciate it.

Not sure why you want to start out pulling the engine for a rebuild. I'd have the compression and coolant seals checked out. The engine could be a lot better than you're assuming. Sometimes these cars don't run for just one or two stupid little things.

What dgeesaman said... It may be in better shape than you think. And I would go with twins. I'm no expert but I think it would be less expensive. Get it running good and then do interior(if it needs it). Replace bad rubber throughout and if it hasn't cost too much up to that point, I'd do a really good paint job.

Yeah you guys may be right.
I'll see if i can go pick up a new battery today, and drain the oil and gas and replace that and run a compression test.
