Question New Engine, How Long Till Break In?

I JUST GOT MY ENGINE REBUILT WITH 3MM APEX SEALS, HOW MANY MILES TILL THE ENGINE BREAKS IN? AND HOW MANY PSI DOES IT TAKE TO DAMAGE THE ENGINE BEFORE BREAK IN?

I WOULD GUESS MABY 8 OR 9 MILES. BY THEN THE ENGINE SHOULD BE BROKEN IN ENOUGH FOR SOMEONE LIKE YOU. AFTER 10 MILES, DEFINATLY RUN IT AT HIGH RPMS FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME. IT SHOULD TREAT YOU AS GOOD AS YOU DESERVE, MAN, GOOD LUCK, HOMIE.

1000 miles I believe. Some people say 500 is enough, but I would go 1000.

I think they recommend a boost limit of 7 PSI.

I would do 500 miles, change oil. Another 500 miles, change the oil and crank up the boost.

All the way to the left, and approximately three keys from the bottom is a particular key that is about 1 1/2 keys long. It reads "Caps Lock". Push it.

I was told to drive without boost till 1000 miles by my local mechanic. I guess he was right because after i hit the 1k mark i let it go and have had no broblems with it.

First 500 miles - oil change - non syntetic -no boost- less than 3000 RPM

Continue to 1000 miles - oil change - no boost - less than 4000 rpm, occasional slow creep to 5000 rpm ever now and again.

At 1000 miles do a compression test. If good creep up the boost to 5 psi, then 7 psi then 10 psi until 1500 miles. Then compression test. if ok.. 10 psi all the way.

i dont know about miles, but here in Japan 1000km minimum, I usually do 1000km then up the rpm for a few weeks, then up the boost after that, then Im usually fully good to go with a 2000km break-in.. THEN, yes of course change your oil, what I always do it run engine flush threw the system, drain it, and take off the oil coolers, blow out the oil coolers with LP air and put it all back together.
GOOD LUCK

500 miles no boost keeping the rpms below 3k, then change oil. Next 500 miles keep the boost below 5psi and your revs below 5k, change oil again. Its really a matter of opionion when breaking in a motor, just as long as you drive it easy for a good 500-1000 miles before boosting hard.

SFB......leave your smart *** post to the lounge, this guy is new and needs some help.

Have you ever tried keeping a new engine with a streetport below 3000 with no boost? It can hit 5psi in a fraction of a second and if it gets hot a PowerFC will idle it at 4000...

Maybe it's just me and my leadfoot? Or maybe the 9.5# flywheel has something to do with it?

Haha, I don't know. I have a 8.5 pound flywheel, big street port, and all the good stuff but I never had a hard time keeping the revs and boost down.
