New Custom PFC Commander Holder!

Hi everyone,

I just finished this little project that I've been working on.

I've been dying to find a good PFC commander holder for ages. I thought the Gotham Racing mount looked crappy (plus it requires a lot of hacking to install in '94/'95 models) and I haven't seen any other good alternatives.

I was at Autozone picking up some sandpaper when I came across this cheap little cellphone holder. It was in the 'Type R' ricer accessory isle with a bunch of other random crap. I had a feeling it'd be a perfect fit and I was right - it adjusts perfectly to fit the PFC commander.

I didn't prepare a step-by-step writeup, but if people are interested I might buy a couple more of them and put together a little writeup for everyone and sell them off for cheap.

The entire project was really simple. I bought some Black SEM Vinyl Dye to make the holder match the PFC commander and the rest of the interior. The holder was originally a light gray/silver color, but it had a perfect black matte finish after dying it. I adjusted the holder and fitted the commander so it was very snug, and locked all the adjusting brackets with Superglue to make sure everything stayed tight and in place.

I bought a 3/8 PVC plug, sanded it down to fit into the cigarette lighter, dyed it black, and drilled out a hole through the middle to accept a screw/bolt. I stuck a bolt through the back of the holder, tightened the plug firmly against it, and screwed everything back together.

Here's the final result. I'm REALLY happy how everything turned out, I think it worked out perfectly Send me a PM if you have any questions or if you're interested in making one of these.

Looks really nice!!

I did a similar thing with my Gotham holder. It works like a charm, especially in a 94/95 =)

Though I would say that you might wish to raise the level of the Commander up just a little bit.. it makes the balance slightly awkward, but the driveability is much improved since it's in your field of view longer. And lets be honest, how often do we need to check if we're going over 160mph?? lol

Looks good. I like that location. Any higher, and you block the trip meter button. Good job.

I made my own holder too, with a slightly different location:

In an FD, the engine rebuild light is always on, or about to come on

Wow, thanks Wompa. I'm tired of my holder vibrating around like crazy. Good find.

water injection wont save your engine from a broken wire on a secondary injector.

edit: have any more pics of your 99 spec front?

Looks good. I want one! You should route your wire under the center console instead of thru the open din slot.

Looks good...I did the same thing last year & I think we used the same cell phone holder. I just brought my cable underneath the dash for a cleaner look:
