New on ClubRX - HKS fan controller manual, DIY tach repair

Hey guys -

I've been having some trouble with the webhost running ClubRX - long story short, the editor for the site no worky, so writing stuff up for the site isn't working right now. But, I can still upload things .

I FINALLY got around to scanning in the HKS fan controller manual. I also added my install notes and settings at the end. This is still an "undiscovered" mod - keeps my car nice and cool year round, AC on, hot days, traffic, etc. Hopefully the manual will intrigue some of you to try it out!

Also, I uploaded a PDF on repairing your tach. This was written by another forum member whose name escapes me . Good stuff, and I used it this weekend on my tach actually .

You should be able to right-click/save as the above links, or just click to see it in Acrobat in your browser window.

Comments/questions/etc. let me know!

NICE info!

Dale, so you like the HKS control more than changing the settings on the PFC? One of the differences that I see with the HKS unit is the AC control correct?

Not having a Datalogit yet for my PFC, I can't totally comment on the PFC's fan control. But, the ECU itself really only has one fan control wire coming from it. In theory, that should only give you control over the low fan speed. The HKS unit controls 2 fan speeds - I tap it into the ECU's fan output and the fan wire on the fan recall harness. That gives me low and medium fan speeds, which are bumped to medium or high speed if I have the AC on.

Best thing is you can totally use it as a water temp gauge. The readings are dead accurate, and the unit will flash/warn you if water temp gets too hot (you can set the warning point). Not to mention you can do other keen things, like control an intercooler water spray and stuff with it.

Dale, I had one of the HKS fan controllers on my 240 about a year and a half ago and yes indeed....that thing is great. Just don't call HKS when you have trouble with it because they'll read you the riot act for even having one in the states. When mine started acting up during the install, and I had to literally it out with them the every step of the way to get tech support. Turns out that they are VERY reluctant to support the fan controller here in the US because it's not even suppossed to be sold here (then why are the instructions in Engrish I asked them? ) Anyways, I'll back you up, that thing is very nice and works great!

That's weird - I've had GREAT support from HKS USA in the past. I actually worked with them on the fan controller, trying to figure out what the FD adapter harness was. Dude I talked to had an FD himself, went and did some calls and called me back with info on it. VERY helpful.

At this point, and when I bought mine, it IS an HKS USA product. I bought mine from my local performance shop - it came through regular distribution channels from HKS USA.

There's a review of the controller on ClubRX in the Reviews section with pictures and stuff. It uses the exact same case as HKS's turbo timer, so it's a small quarter din size.

This was over a year and a half ago that I had this issue with them. I am very glad to see that they support it now. I'll be keeping that in mind for my FD. Keep up the good work Dale.
