Any particular recommendation for the type of grease here? Just a general high-temp grease? Any compounds or materials to look for or avoid?

FWIW, I just put in CRC Sta-Lube 85w-90 in my trans and it is running very well. It is a true GL-4 gear oil and is specifically labeled as being yellow metal safe.

I think I spent $36 on a big jug and still have some left over... forgot how much a PITA pumping heavy fluids with a big shop syringe is while laying on your back.

Not sure high temp is needed in the shifter. Also, from my experience, some greases with extreme pressure additives are not friendly to plastics. Not sure if the FD shifter has plastic bushings in there like the FC. I have some pure silicone grease that I use one plastics, spark plug boots, and brake caliper slide pins because it is supposed to be non reactive with plastics.

The stock lower shifter bushing is nylon, but designed to sit in a gear oil bath so doubting it makes a lot of difference. I've heard of guys using a marine grease, which intuitively might make some sense. I just use a high-tack general purpose grease. Seems to stay on well. Helps with smoothness, but I don't see it being under a lot of load or heat.
