need some tire advice.

I need some tires that I can drive to the track on, but still get some decent times with. Hopefully something not to expensive either. they will be going on some 18x9 wheels.

Any suggestions?
Whtas the widest I can fit on a 18x9 wheel?

Thanks for any help.

Hey H,

I wanted to, but forgot to mention in that other thread that the Kumhos you have out back are on the heavy side, and Toyo T1s tires are suppose to be among the lightest. I read on some wheel weight site that the those and the Pirelli P7000s are the lightest you can get.

Pirelli does not, but both Toyo and Kuhmo provide weights for their tires. www.toyo.com and www.kumhousa.com . If I remember correctly, the difference in weight for your 245/40/18s for the two brands are 4 lbs. This quite a bit, when you consider that all this wieght is situated along the edge of the tire/wheel combo.

The Toyo T1s have some very favorable reviews, and that is what I am going to try next - though really want the Brigdstone S03s as that they have really dropped the prices on them. The same wheel site says that the S03s are among the heaviest though...

Not sure what the widest tires you can throw on... I would imagine them to be around 255...... mayyyybe 265.

I have heard that the Bridgestone S-03s are probably the best all season tires, that and Toyo T-1s are nice. My friend is putting Nitto 555rs on his FD I want to see how they work out.

I have seen as large as 275/35/18s mounted on those 9s ( most 275/35/18s have an approved wheel width of 9 to 10.5 inches), but 265/35/18s are probably a better choice. Plus, many of the DOT legal track tires are made in this size, including the Kumho V700 Ecsta http://www.tirerack.com/tires/kumho/ku_ecsta_v700.jsp , probably the most affordable of the bunch.

Nevermind, the weight diff is 2.8 lbs. Given how tall the 245/40/18s are (25.7" for the Kumhos), going to a 255/35/18 (25" theoritical overall dia) will be closer in terms of gearing, and may help in acceleration a bit. 265/35/18s are wider of course, but has a bit taller profile (therefore effecting gearing) at 25.3" theoritcal overall diameter.

Thanks for the info guys

These tires are only gonna be driven on to goto the track, race, then back home.

I'm looking for something not to expensive becasue later this summer I'm probably going to get a pair of light 17s that I'll just use at the track. when that happens I'm going to sell these to one of my frinds for cheap.

I just need some tires now becasue my kuhmos suck bad, and I just found out I'm going to the track on friday. And everyone at the track will expect the TT 7 to throw down.

It would suck to lose face against some of these low 14 civics just becuase I have crappy tires.

Any more suggestions?

I've heard very good things about the Yokohama A032R's (they have them at tirerack for right around $150, I believe). I'm thinking of using them for my daily driver tires (monthly autocrosses and occasional track days), expecting to replace them about once a year. I was at the SCCA races last weekend at VIR and saw several guys using them for their rain tires.

For anyone just after an all around street tire, I still love the Yoko AVS Intermediates. 160 tread wear and they're on closeout from tirerack for $60 a piece! I'll be sad when they're all gone....

The Yoko AO32R's are very good tires, but what kind of 'track' are we talking about? For autox they are among the best, for going to the 1/4mi track, they aren't very good, the sidewalls are much too stiff.

Sorry guys, I forgot to specify, I'll be going to the drag strip.

They don't let you run at the strip if its raining right?

I wouldn't call them an all season by any stretch, but the Bridgestoe S-03 in stock size work great on my car. In pouring rain with a stock FD I got pretty bad wheel hop instead of spin. If it gets close to freezing temperatures (+5 Celcius) they spin easily.
