Need some help. Clutch problems

I have been reading the forum for months now and I have to say I have gotten a lot of good advice. This is my first post . It seem my car will not accelerate, when I step on the gas the engine revs to about 4500 rpm/5000 rpm starts to wind then the car slowly accelerates. I also tried to stall the car at a dead stop by quickly taking my foot off the cluch but she didn't even stall just reved at 500 rpmin first gear. Is this the cluch or a bigger problem. If it is the cluch how easy are they to replace yourself? I thank you for any help.

Do you have any feeling in the pedal?(resistance) How many miles are on the car?Is everything original? If it is the clutch , it's a pretty big job. You have to remove the Transmission which involves removing other things and so on. If you don't feel mechanically inclined enough or don't have the proper facilities to perform the job take it to a speacialist. Try buying a Factory Service Manual and looking at what is involved in the job.

Also forgot to say that when you do have it done or do it yourself... make sure you resurface the flywheel professionaly!! OR,.. get a package deal from SR motorsports or RX7Store.. They are all around A thousand bucks for the packages.Check for a correct price though!!

I had a shop install a clutch for me and they charged me $360.00 for labor.

You can get a great deal on an ACT S/S Clutch ($500) from "Sl0w7" (AKA: Kieth - Chavez Motorsports). Just PM him...

I highly recommend that you upgrade your flywheel ($350) while your clutch is off to either an Aluminum 9.5lb or Steel 17lb lightened flywheel. YOU WONT BE SORRY! You're car will feel much quicker and more responsive in the lower gears...
Mine sure was and I only got the 17lb'er(Because of the hills in SF)

As far as a clutch job, the FD is pretty easy and straightforward to do. The only real "trick" is the pull-type clutch setup, and that's no biggie.

Give me a lift and air tools, and I could bang that out in 2 hours flat.

Many of the 93's had clutches that were really weak - Mazda later upgraded the clutch material. That's probably what you're running in to - about 40,000-50,000 miles is what you'll get on the early clutch disc.

I wouldn't sweat resurfacing the flywheel - just as long as it isn't gouged up or the like (doubtful) just go over it with some sandpaper to scuff some of the marks off, clean it well with brake cleaner, and you're golden. Trust me, I've done about 15-20 RX-7 clutch jobs (2nd and 3rd gen) and have YET to have a flywheel-related problem. Or any problem with the clutch for that matter .
