Need some advice

Got my FD not too long ago, I knew it was going to come with problems, alright identified that I need a new PPF and Diff Brace, pretty much the whole interior. Took some pictures to ask if there’s anything that needs fixing in the engine bay, also added a picture of the signal lever which is loose and not sure what the part I need is called if someone could please identify it haha, thank you! Here is the link: pics

Try searching first. You will learn a lot and then can ask decent questions that people can actually help you with.

By looking at the pictures I can tell a lot of the workmanship wasn't amazing on who modified the car previously. You are going to be in for some work to get the car to where it's a solid driver.

Do you know what all is done to the car?

Does it still have AC? I can see some of the components but it looks like there's no power steering pump.

On the turn signal issue, I'd just get that whole assembly used, shouldn't be too hard to find. There are 2 versions, one that has the rear wiper control and one that doesn't. Also you can't use a RHD/Japanese component, they are reversed.

There is a rubber cap on the driver's side of the engine, looks like they blocked off or bypassed the heater core for some reason. That rubber cap will fail at some point in time.

Lots of loose and sloppy wiring.

The giant red power cable was mentioned in the other iteration of this thread. Do you know what that goes to? That's an engine fire looking for a place to happen.

yeah I figured after the ppf broke I would probably need to do a lot of work on it :/

what I was told that was done to the car are that it is semi-pp/street ported and fuel system reworked.

for the turn signal assembly, is that what it’s called, I’ve been trying to find it and I couldn’t find anything.

I’m not sure where the red wire goes to I’ll have to check it out, would you suggest just taking it to a shop and have them look at it?

also the power steering isn’t installed, I have to go get that from the po

thank you

For parts, PM Tomsn16 or FritzFlynn on the forum. They have tons of used parts.

For that power wire I would guess it would go to maybe a car stereo amp. Just trace down where it goes.

If it's a semi-PP engine it's REALLY modified. Do you know how much power it's making?

Putting power steering back on will probably be a big job. Even more so if the previous owner ripped a lot of stuff out.

Don't try and do everything in one go. Get a power plant frame first and get that done. Start driving the car and let the car tell you what it needs.

Are you comfortable/have experience working on cars?

Alright, thank you I will go ahead and message them once I’m off work.

I will trace it out next week, going out of town this weekend, where do you suggest I run that red wire through? The side?

I was told it makes around 400-450 right now with the tune it has, the engine was just rebuilt so the po said it’s on a break-in tune.

I’ll put the power steering off for now until everything else is fixed.

I don’t have any experience working with cars so I’m having some of my friends who have more experience help me, the fd is probably the worst for someone like me hahaha but I wanna make it work.

thank you again

Yeah you are going to have a battle ahead of you. Heavily modified cars like that aren't easy to work on since you don't know how the original owner set up things and what exactly was done.

Big thing is start learning. Watch Youtube videos, read on the forum, put some serious time into learning. You don't have to just read/watch RX-7 stuff - a turbo is a turbo, a cooling system is a cooling system, wires are wires. What applies to 90% of the cars out there applies to your car.

Again, you need to find out what that red wire goes to first. Does it go to a car stereo amp that's in use? Does it go to a dead end where a car stereo amp USED to be? Does it go to something else important? You have to know what it's for then make a game plan on what to do.

Will definitely keep reading/watching stuff to learn, I’ll figure out what that red wire goes to and ask again as soon as I find out, thank you for the help!

Yep. It is what I suspected, it was most likely originally for a car stereo amp. That end in the hatch is one sharp turn away from shorting out and causing a fire - good thing you took the time to investigate!

Yep, unbolt it from the positive terminal and pull the whole thing out.
