You should not fail with those mods if you are up-to-date on your maintenance (spark plugs, recent oil etc.) - at least the sniffer part of the test.

You may fail the visual (if there is such a thing in your state) with the airbox and the downpipe (and the cat if they notice).

I recently passed (by a huge margin) California's dyno test with Cheap Bastard intake, downpipe, Efini y-pipe and Racing Beat exhaust.

^ what he said, except that you may have to put a better cat on the car to pass. Many aftermarket cats don't do a good enough job to pass emissions testing.

I just discovered yesterday that here in PA they don't even do a sniff test if the car does under 5000 miles a year. Your state could possibly have that too.
Either way - I passed emissions (sniff test) with those same mods 2 years ago.

Change your O2 sensor first. Then check the other posts on this topic, or check my prior posts.

California has the toughest test in the nation, and I've passed the test with two FD's. Check my prior posts to find out how, legally.

Here's one of my passing smog reports to prove it.

Good luck..

In California, the technician places the car on rollers with a specific load based on the weight of the car. The whole setup actually isn't an accurate representation of real world driving. But it does fail the gross polluters, and after all, it IS the air we breathe that we're protecting. (That was hard to admit, right there.)

The car didn't even have the shop fan blowing the engine.

Good luck.

I wonder if cali will pass an NA three rotor im just talking for the visual. I'm sure i can get tuning done to make it pass the sniffer but i hope they wont fail it on visual. once the motor in my FD goes down an NA 3 rotor is going in and being military i'd like to find out if it would pass before i get stationed over there. I don't see what the problem would be no big turbo no huge intercoller just an engine with a indivisaul throttel bodies

In California when you do a motor swap you must record the swap with DMV . if your registration card shows a motor swap they should test the motor to the new engine standards. like if you do a chevy LS1 swap they can't test you as a rotary! it must be to the year and model of the motor.

ok thanks but isn't there a law that states the engine has to be the same year or newer since my car is 94 i'd have to find an 94 20B or say that it is. i'm not sure of the production run of the 20B made it to 94
