Need Oil Pan Torque specs, do I use a gasket?

I am going to throw the oil pan on my 13b-rew, and then throw on the mounts, I need to know the torque specs for them, and if I should use a gasket or not? I should be using the silicone sealant correct?

I have the engine complete except for the pan and mounts... throw me some input.. I apprecaite it.

Thanks

DON'T USE A GASKET!!!
I have specs here someplace with me, and they are on the forum as well, don't torque them very tight.

Use silicone whatever you do.

The last engine that was put in my FD, they used a gasket instead of sealing it properly and it started leaking at around 6-7k.

Yup. Gobs of silicone, no gasket. The torque specs are *very* light........I'm not at the shop right now and don't remember off the top of my head. Just use hand tools, and do it by feel......I've seen heads break off those small 10 mil bolts with air tools, but never hand tools.

I'll agree with the gobs of silicon ,, but I will not stand for you guys blaming my friend the gasket!!!! Hahaha!! It is not the problem.(culprit) Heat from the engine and more commonly a bad engine mount causes the leaks. Once the leak has started the pan is slightly warped. Unless this is adressed you may speed up the repeat of the leak. I use a gasket on EVERY engine i rebuild AS WELL AS gobs of silicon on both the bottom and top side of the gasket surface. Never had one releak !....(yet!)Ha! I believe that after years of heat cycles the silicon alone gets brittle and blows a leak. But thats just my take on a never ending battle of logic........Either way will work and the gasket is only like 15 bucks from Malloy for me. Aloha and let the flames fly!!! Sorry 1 more thing....after you tourque the pan bolts and motor mount bolts retighten the 6mm(10mm head) pan bolts behind the motor mounts....They loosen up after the motor mounts are tourqued down to spec.. Sorry this is so long!!! The torque #'s for the small bolts are 79-104 in lbf. The motor mounts are 55-68 ft lbf. Hope those #'s help

Yup, I was gonna say the same thing. Good catch, chica

80 foot pounds will work great for your lug nuts, but will wreak havoc upon your oil pan

LOL - I appreciate it.. I do aviation Calibrations for the Corps... so I'm familiar with torque... very, very familiar.... but thats a good note incase somebody else looks at it! Hrmm.. so a gasket and silicone eh?? Well.. can't hurt to do both! I think I might have to barrow a torque wrench from the shop for the weekend... haha.

THanks guys.

I've always used the gasket and never had ONE leak... I give credit to two things ...

1 - make sure you scrape off all old gasket and sealant from both surfaces very well using a razor
2 - use sealant on both sides of the gasket and make sure to put the sealant around the 'inside' edge of the bolt holes
