Need a new key...

Anybody know of a dealer who can make a new key with just the VIN number?

I am in Korea and my keys are starting to warp and develop stress fractures. My car is a US specs bought in Georgia.

Thanks,

Cheuk

any of them should be able to if you prove that you are the owner of the car.

Why don't you just buy new key blanks, either generic, or OEM from the dealer, or Efini, and have them cut from your current key(s) by a local locksmith?

So, what's the alternative? Sorry, I'm not familiar w/ how you get a key from the dealer. The dealership here just sells generic mazda keys that are blank and cut them based on my existing key...

Are you talking about a key w/ that ID # tag thingy that came w/ the keys when the car was purchased new? Cuz I believe those are used to order a new set of keys from the dealer, but I sure don't have that...(didn't come w/ the car when I bought it used)

i just bought an rx8 key. it's the same style, but when i bought it from mazda the the groves that go up the centre of the key are no there. you will need to see a locksmith about cutting the centre groove.

not sure about in the US, but you can get these rx8 keys as well

You will have to show ID and proof of registration for a dealer to make you a new OEM key. Try contacting www.mazdaformance.com and see if you can fax the proof to them. They are a Mazdaspeed dealer in Texas.

Thanks go racer.
Many of the dealers I happen to drop by on when I happen to be back stateside can't do it off of the VIN #. My keys aren't perfect so even my copies take a little jiggling to get them to work on the doors.
