need to know how to get more power

Well i am new to the site and also to the rx7 world. I bought my first FD about two weeks ago and love it but it needs more power. I took it to the track this past weekend and sad to say it didn't do very well. ( 15.3 at 12 psi ) It may have been me not knowing how to drive it. Because i am used to driveing 5 speeds and this one is auto. But I know this car can do more i just need to know how to get it there. Right know the only performance part i know it has is a hks cat back and down pipe. Other then that i think it is rather stock. I don't hava lot of money to put in it but i do have some so if you'll could please help.

thanks and i will try and learn to lauch it tommorrow. Hopefully that will help some but what kind of performance mods can i do that will make a differance beside the bottle. And what kind of parts can i put that will let me tune the boost up even more then 12 psi with out hurting the engine.

the car was running 12 psi when i got it should i turn it down. Remember this is my first rx7 i don't know anything about them. But i did get it form a guy on this site that has owned them for a while and i didn't think he would run 12 psi if it was not safe.

there is alot of things you could do one is cheap and make you run better times take some presure out of you tires, get you intake, a pettit ecu, fuel pump bigger injectors, and get that automatic out of that car get you a 5 speed

You got a lot to learn if your new to these cars. I highly suggest not get into the throttle much untill you learn A LOT about these cars. Do all the reliablility mods, and get boost controller on there and turn the boost back down to 10 psi. There is a specific way these cars should be modded and there is a lot of info in the archives. The search function will definately come in handy.

Oh yeah, A compression test on the motor would definately let you know how your car is doing. A 15.3 in the quarter mile, even with an auto is rediculously bad. What was the trap speed? Good luck!

Then don't start modding the car any further than what it already is.

You are going to need the money for maintenance and for fixing something you will break while doing runs

Read the sticky with the FAQs. Lots of good info in there.

Definetly get a boost controller for the time being. Its not worth risking leaning out and detonating just because your running the stock ECU. Just save up and do your mods in a logical order...You might want to consider this list just as a reference. People are bound to add their $.02.

Boost Gauge
DP
Cat-Back
Intake/ECU at the same time
(There are many choices with ECU...Pettit, M2, Power Fc, Haltec....)
Eventually do the vacuun hoses
The list goes on and on, just be careful...

Didn't happen to be using the hold feature while you were doing those runs? That might explain some of it, the fact that it's an auto may explain the rest I happen to own an auto but I'm in the process of doing the 5 speed swap.

hey guys i did get a boost gauge and a mauel boost controller so i could turn the boost down to 10 psi and i guess it runs about he same as it was running before. Can't see a big differance. And when i was raceing i didn't use the hold because i don't know what it is for. are how to use it. I know it sounds dumb but i just put it in drive and went down the track very low i might add.
